I have a Turtle Beach 510, which is excellent. I also have have a cheaper sennheiser stereo headset, which is also quite nice. Really depends on your price range and feature requirements;)

i have some sennheiser 201s too for watching tv in bed there ok

my price range is about £70 wired are fine too

Im also interested in getting some for gaming too. And also use sinnheiser open headphones at the moment.

Akso wondering about 5.1 surround headphones. Do they really work in creating surround sound?

My TB's certainly do, but you can also get headsets with 2-3 discreet speakers in each muf.

Personally in that range I would go for stereo, but I haven't tried that set.
If you're looking for a gaming headset, you'd do well with separate volume for game audio and voice audio. If you're only looking for gaming headphones, then that obviously doesn't matter :)

I have the Roccat Kave 5.1. Excellent set. If you have any questions sling 'em my way :)

In the name of truth, any phone with enough volume to make me deaf and externally silent enough to not bother my other half sleeping in the other room.

Plantronics Gamecom 780's all the way. Great sound quality, great value and the mic quality is excellent.

They retail about £40 but I got mine for £25 and if you hunt about, you can get them even less then that. Beats headsets costing twice as much in terms of performance.

Only things I can nit-pick is that it isn't super luxury comfort and it's fairly plain styling compared to other gaming headsets (I personally prefer that). If you want that stuff to be top notch, expect to play a 3-figure sum. Overall, I can't think of any other heatset that gives the best bang for the pound rate, just my 2 pence.

Here's a question. Is it better to have headphones with 2x 3.5mm jacks (ear + mic) or be USB based?

If you have a decent soundcard or onboard audio then using USB headphones would disable that wouldn't it? Isn't it better to use 3.5mm jack based ones to obtain your soundcard's audio?

Something else I've been wondering. At the moment my PC outputs its sound to a Sony AV Receiver. I therefore get very nice 5.1 sound from my speakers, and currently plug my Sinnheiser stereo headphones into the amp for headphone audio from any PC or console (as they all route through the amp. Is there any way to connect a pair of 5.1 surround headphones to an AV Amp? Or are they strictly USB gaming headphones only?

usb based devices have their own sound card it dosent dissabe your sound card but you would have to select which one you want to use when gaming.

i just use any old closed back over ear head phones.
im forever breaking them i canbt affoard to throw away more than £20 on a pair regular, right now i have some alba something or others, if i want to speak (very unlikley) then i can hook up a seperate mike or just use the one in the webcam.

i find a lot of games now have very glitchy sound though probably because i just use stereo rather than 5/7.1 but there are a lot of dead spots where you dont get the sound.
i notice this on systems with 7.1 sound but only usinbg stereo, even though i specifically state im using stereo.

i was perfectly happy back in the old days with dolby stereo only lol. worked perfectly fine for me and i could tell roughly where the person was from foot steps with stereo alone. im dissapointed with all these 7.1 surround eax ectetera enhanced games.

Skullcandy lowrider. They're widely available, cheap, sound great and comfortable too. They also look cool and come in a range of colours.

It took me buying Sennheiser and Roxio to realise that the recommendations and reviews must have either come from irrational fans or the companies themselves. Really aren't any better quality, and the wires end up breaking on all brands for one reason or another.

Ruddy wires. Radio ones are very noticeably worse quality, but worth trying out for the convenience.

I got some Madusa 5.1 usb version

They sound really good too

Not heavy and cover he entire ear so I can wear for hours I was playing dts based music for and watching sg1 for 6 hours with no problems

Each area can be adjusted on a inwire modual the base is good

They were on special from maplins for £33 from £55

As long as the drivers are installed I can just plug into each of my systems and use

I was going to get the multiple jack version but usb is more practical for me
