As per title, anyone knows the specs of the on-board RAM chips used on GVP G-Force 030 (for A2000) and if the chip type is SOIC or PLCC? And where to order it from (was thinking Digikey). Thanks!

The ones in the top of this picture?

According to this guide, it has the following specs:
SRAM, 5V, 1Mbit x 4, Fast Page, SOJ, 60ns.
SOJ looks similar to PLCC, however it only has chips on two sides, not all four.
lol:you can rob the memory from a 4mb single sided or 8mb double sided 60ns edo simm 72 pin.(8 ic's per side)

Not sure EDO would work if the original chips are FPM.
Anyway it would be very easy to rob those chips using a hot air rework station, so you need to get one of those, tbtorro.![]()

it'll work mate.

Maybe I could just socket them to be sure - SOJ sockets should exists - didn't the old S3 Virge cards had those? Perhaps these would do? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMD-SOJ-28-...al_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item3f3232fd1f
But how to solder them, I don't see any legs sticking out? I'm guessing maybe hot air, but will the plastic survive?

They might be the right ones, although the 4 middle pins in each side are not used. They can be soldered using a fine tip on the soldering iron and a steady hand. The bottom has holes in it so you can get to the pins.
I was also wondering if anyone knows if the first SIMM socket is electrically equivalent to the SOJ pads (maybe I could measure them) as I've seen the first socket is missing on cards that have the chips.
And if that assumption is correct then the RAM should just work after soldering it without any other modification on the card, right?
