My very first computer I ever had of my own was the Atari 800. My dad purchased it through a work program where you could pay it off through ones own paycheck. He also had purchased a 5-1/4" ss/sd (90k) floppy drive, and cassette player/recorder. I used all through high school ('82 - '86) and a bit of college (two different colleges '86 - '92 (when it died)). I was so happy when I got it, I was amazed with the 48K of memory and different graphic resolutions available to me at the time. I, at times, miss it, but eventually moved onward.

My first computer was an Acorn Electron with First Byte Joystick adapter and despite its numerous short comings I loved it. It came with some amazing arcade conversions like Hopper (Frogger) and Arcadians as well as other great titles like Boxer, Ravenskull and Repton. As soon as I loaded up my first game I was hooked. Like most of us at the time we only had one TV in the house so I could only use it after school and on the weekend mornings before the folks got to the TV. Sadly my parents decided I had grown out of it and decided to give it to a Neighbour a few years later :crying:

My first was a Commodore 64. Still regret selling it. At the time though I don't think I fully appreciated it. Would probably have been better of with the master system. But I still think it was a great system.
I miss it dearly ;)

My first computer was a Commodore 16, after a short period with that (2 years maybe), my mum bought me a C64C, which I still have today, roughly 27 years on. Most weekends, after a few drinky-poos, I jump on it and try to play some games that I mastered as a child, now, no such chance. Advantages now, as I get bored quicker with the game, I can move on to the next game much quicker, as I'm loading it from SD card. :)

My first computer was the Commodore 16, i still have it and now is upgraded to 64k :)

my first computer was a c64 breadbin i saved up for,i then saved or the c2n cassette drive and then the disk drive...and finally a monitor...
many a joystick was destroyed back then playing games with my friends, lol
i think i got it back in 83 or there abouts cant remember where though...
im lucky really as my hobby also made me pocket money,so could afford a computer simply by saving for it...the choice was a c64 or bbc,i went for the c64 as it was slightly cheaper without the addons and i could get those later as and when i felt i could...which i did.
some day i will also get a bbc,as it was the machine i saw most at school.and still looks damn sexy to me,lol(you there bas, lol)

it broke years ago and i remember putting it away for years as i couldnt find the problem it failed from,i recently got it out of storage(i forgot i still had it,lol) to find unfortunately it was beyond repair due a problem with the board itself most of the parts were fine...the parts from it saved three other c64's i still have those,so it lives on in a way.
i can fix almost any c64..ironicly it was my own i couldn't fix.

anyway, ive had tons of systems over the years too many to list here really(way way too many,lol)..but the first one i had is the one i remember the most and i still have lots of fond memory's of this computer,it brought me years of fun:)
many a debate as to which was the best as many of my friends had spectrums 48's or amstrad cpc's...even while we were playing the same game on each machine to compare...i see this has never changed, lol
all the old eight bit machines are awesome for me now, they are all great in there own right.:)
may they all live on for as long as they can possibly live and still give the months and years of enjoyment i have for them all and even the next generation of computer owner.and the next:)

Commodore 64 purchased in 1987 by my dad.

I was 7 at the time and this was my first go on a computer. I basically learned by completing all the projects my dad began and got distracted from. They were all BASIC programs. Playing noise, manipulating sprites and customising character tiles.

Later as the 90s brought us the incredible Sonic the Hedgehog, I tinkered with assembler a little and spent most of my time converting my favourite Game gear games to the C64.

The Amiga came into my life by my friend having an A500+ Cartoon classics pack, and another friend had an Atari STFM (I still feel guilty for making him cry by informing him innocently that the Amiga was superior to the Atari).

I finally decided that I must have an Amiga when I saw the CDTV. A really hot girl at the Fosse Park Leicester's Comet showed me Trivial Pursuit, Turrican, Lemmings and the peripherals. Not many people were interested, so she gave me a really good introduction to the machine. A great memorable moment in my life. I saved up every bit of money I could and was about to buy one.

But... I had a dilemma.

By the time I could afford one, the A1200 had been released. What do I do? I decided that a CDTV of the A1200's spec must be just around the corner and waited.

In the end, my parents bought me an A1200 the following Christmas. I bought a CDTV a couple of years ago too and run the two side by side. I would like to design my own update of a CDTV some day from scratch, but it's not at the top of my schedule right now and my hardware skills need development.

Once I've managed to establish myself enough to support my family comfortably I'll be able to dedicate myself to such a project.

I'm getting married this July too! Eek!

Hi
The question is about Computers but all those answers are microcomputers, aren't they ?
Well, anyway my first microcomputer bought by my parents in 1984 was the Oric Atmos with a cassette player.
I used to play Zorgon's Revenge,Aigle d'or...
My first words typed on it were EXPLODE,ZAP,...
I remember trying to do some basic graphic animation which I spent 3 hours and before I had the time to save on tape the electricity went off !!!!
occures quite often back in those days

Specially for french people they will know what I am talking about when I say the words TILT and HEBDOGICIEL.
Who has not spent hours typing those very long programs and DATA just to see before our eyes some tiny programs becoming alive...?
Please look it of the internet for the ones not knowing HEBDOGICIEL and TILT?

Cheers to everybody making memories back to life again !!!!

thanks

The first computer I owned was an Amstrad PCW9512. I was married at the time and the ex used it for college work. When I left the marital home the computer was faulty but was still under warranty so I dragged it back to Dixons and swapped it for an Amiga 500 Plus cartoons classic pack. That all happened in March 1992

We're talking about microcomputers here? Cos my first computer was my calculator! :) But, after that, the C64 was my first home microcomputer. I think it was 1986. First, using tape and then later on with a disk drive and a power cartridge. Oh what bliss!
