Just getting input from others, I personally have only used the older versions in UAE so when I get my amiga 1200 I'm wondering what OS would be the best.

Depends what does the user needs...
I went the WHDLoad way with an over-sized 60GB HD with 8 partitions to store basically everything Amiga related on my real Ami, so I'm using AOS3.9 just to be perfectly sure all of my HD is seen.
Guess one could use the same on AOS3.1 with a few patches, but back in ~2004 when I prepped that HD it didn't work for me.

I use to run my A1200 with WB3.1 on a 43Gb HD with all partitions seen. 2.1, 3.0 & 3.1 are good for unaccelerated Amigas, perfect for memory-expanded only ones.
An Amiga with a good accelerator (030 @50MHz or better) deserves 3.9.
Once I installed 3.9 on mine A600 2+4Mb (PCMCIA) with noromupdate. It works. More for the "because I can" factor than any other thing.:wink:

On un-Accelerated Amigas, Classic Workbench is by far the best.
On Accelerated Amigas, 3.9 is the only one to have & 3.5 if ur tight for cash.
Imho, OS4.0 for Classic Amigas is about as much use as a "Chocolate Fireguard!"

On an un-accellerated Amiga, I'd go for Workbench 3.x or 2.1 (if it's still on 2.1 ROMs)
If it's accellerated, go for AmigaOS 3.9

ClassicWB 3.x for me most of the time as I generally only use real Amigas for watching demos and playing games via WHDLoad.
I do however also agree with 3.9 for an accelerated Amiga.
I've never bothered with PPC and OS4, and doubt I ever will. A lot of expense for not much use.

yeah, I've a copy of OS3.9 haage and partner, and I'm gonna install it on my 1200 when I get it. I was just wondering whether OS4 or MorphOS or even a KS switcher would be an investment worthwhile.

Jfyi, you'll need at least an 030 to get MorphOS running decently & you need either a CSPPC for Big Box Amiga's or a BPPC for A1200's to use OS4.0 Classic. You can do OS4.0 Classic on an A2000 if you have the CSMKI fitted with the PPC Developers board installed! :wink:
