For about a year I've been using my A1200 with a logitech USB mouse, via some adapter I bought off of ebay. It bothers me that the scroll wheel doesn't work even with freewheel running.

Looking on ebay again I can see there's a bunch of different options, but not much (if anything) is said about scroll wheel support. Some of these designs even only work with USB mice that support PS/2 protocol for use with passive adapters for office PCs.

What's the right setup to use here?

I remember using a Cocolino adaptor on my A1200 with a PS/2 mouse and wheel support worked fine with that setup.

There a few solutions which are available.

An Older adapter for 9pin to PS/2 mice include

Eye tech Mouse adapter with Driver software

Current Adapters available are

Elbox Cocolino

Individual Computers Micromys

Have used both of the above.
Currently I am using the V4 Micromys adapter with my Amigas. For some reason it makes for a smoother experience.
Have used the Cocolino adapter as well.
The latest Micromys is the V5.

Of course someone has made it.
There is HID2AMI available on Amibay up to version 3 which works fine with mouse wheel since v2 (and V1 if you can do very small soldering mod). @sampedenawa
There is also Mouster but i really use this one only for gamepads so can't confirm myself about the wheel.
