Whats your Internet speeds

120mb down looks awesome guys, but only 10mb up poor up/down ratio.

robin-elvin you have an internet connection speed of around 1997, why not throw the book at your internet provider, or better still jump ship?

or are you waiting for fibre infrastructure to be installed locally?

thats just a bit faster than i had download. and about the same as i had upload.
but my ping was better..
It used to tell me slower than 98% of gb..

pretty happy with my new speed.. but i dont know what to do with it now lol. :picard could really have used it when we used to have forza games.

We had no possibility of fibre for the longest time. then all of a sudden the exchange 2 miles away changed its status to "taking orders"
Talk talk called me and asked if i was interested i pretended i wasnt. they haggled them selfs down so i got free install free modem thingy, free router/hub, prety much free everythings. and dropped price to only £5 more a month than i was paying previously..

they just noticed that we arent on their tv package. They phoned today and managed to hagle them selfs down again.
so now they are sending me a free tv box "which will never get unpacked" and they dropped my monthly by a further £4.70
(they think that if i get the tv box that i will buy the channels from them. but that thing is never getting opened.)

So all in all 30p a month extra took me from 1.8Mb down to 23Mb down. also got free install. BT installed a new green box at the bottom of our village. they dug up a bunch of wires and replaced them. then came and set up the fibre connection and all for free.

I kind of like talk talk to be honest with you. they manage to haggle them selfs in to a position where they are giving you stuff away. I also managed top get all the prices locked for the duration of the contract. (i did have to renew my contract its an extra 18 months) but like i just said they cant jack up the prices in that time, and if they wasnt me back in 18months they will have to match or improve the deal they gave me.

they are a decent company PROVIDED nothing goes wrong. if you dont have to talk to customer support then i have no complaints about them, and the times i did have to talk to customer support they compensated us so much i didnt have to pay a bill for the 1st 6-8months.

off with their heads!

oh wow with a connection speed like that you must have the patience of a saint, i take it you spend a fair amount of time watching the swirling internet explorer icon (or eggtimer?) whilst pages load up :picard

Looks like you're being throttled mate

BT used to do that here, but when I re-joined (for Infinity) they assured me they didn't do it anymore.

I have my full speed all the time now :)

virgin throttles like crazy under the "fair usage policy"
kind of annoying really and they arent exactly the chapest company either so i eventually stoped using them,
i went from recomending them to every one to telling people dont use them ever.

I'll certainly be looking around for different providers once my 12 month contract ends in May.
I currently pay around £145 a month for the VIP bundle which includes 120mb (usually around 20-25mb) Broadband, TV (full package in 4 rooms) & Phone (which never really gets used).

My net through Virgin again - taken about 2mins ago so Saturday afternoon peak time.

When they're good they're great, when they oversell they really do blow goats, to the point where I almost left this for BT ADSL @2.5mbit/s a couple of years back.

Lots of complaints to CS and escalating the problem to director level is the only way you get this problem fixed, but it won't happen unless you get an engineer call out and get one who'll try to help you otherwise you'll be stuck in a circle of off shore call centre fun of turn the modem off then back on again CSRs.

Even with the ticket I have for high utilization in my area this aint bad for peak time on a Saturday.

Don't know who The Internet Business are, because I'm not with them. The result is pretty typical - top download speed is about 1.6mb. We're waiting on fibre but since Eircom has already "done" this area and all the VDSL cabinets are surrounding us but not actually covering us, we'll probably get it in 2017.

I hate Eircom (not with them either, just to let you know, but they're laying the fibre).

im getting good internet from talk talk, uncaped fibre (slowest option), phone line, a tv box that i wont use, unlimited landline call booster package (usually its free evenings, but wife uses it a lot during the day). 23Mb downloads 1.9Mb upload

for £18.30 a month (had to correct that, i made a mistake with the monthly price) and i pay line rental up front at the start of the year so i make a saving there too.

virgin used to be £32 a month for "unlimited" but fair usage 3Mb down 500Kb up and then £15 a month for line rental to bt. no tv box no free calls.
So i get a whole lot more + faster speeds with talk talk compared to virgin and for a saving of ~£25 a month if i add the line rental savings on top of that.
Also our phone bill last time "quaterly" was £16..

Im very happy with talk talk. But i was not happy at all with them to start it. and if you have problems then they are really really bad. but aslong as everything goes well and you dont need to contact CS. they are very good and great value.
