Whats your Internet speeds

I'm with Taltalk and my speed is abysmal, in reality the downloads I get are at less than half a meg per second when downloading videos or any other files.

When they upped us from 100to 120mb the cap Virgin put in place was ridiculous - 6Gb iirc which you can hit in 4mins on a steam download. But it seems looking into it last night they've removed the download limit and put an upload one on instead to cap ppl who torrent which cause most of the oversub issues from what they say. This wasn't voluntary - Ofcom had said their shaping policy wasn't fair enough to be sold as an unlimited internet service. So now we can't upload more than 2.25Gb in an hour which goes up to 2.75Gb in an hour when we get our 152Mb upgrade.
 
first time my upload speed has hit 1Mbps :D

Serves me well - still buy physical copies of stuff so don't need anything fast. :)
(as an ex-BBS user in the 1990s I learnt how to be patient with 'slow' downloads - anyone else find that who used to download at 28.8Kbps in the old days? Or were you slower? :lol: )

I'm on my tablet at the moment so can't run a current speed test, so here is a speedtest I did when BT transferred Infinity to my current house in Jan.

And still exactly the same speeds when I ran the test last week. Download fluctuates between 74 and 68 Mb/s and download speed is normally around 9-10MB/s via Steam, so I'm really happy.

The low ping rate is great for online gaming, and the upload speed is perfect for torrent seeding and uploading to my servers.

And no throttling on Infinity either.

Regarding cost, I pay my line rental yearly so it costs roughly £10 a month, plus I have anytime unlimited calls for £7 a month so all calls are inclusive and don't cost me any more. Very nice deal. I also obviously get the BT Sport channels free on sky too.
 
Upgraded back in January to Bt infinity, was with o2 getting 4mb out of 20mb or whatever to top speed was on the old unlimited o2 service, found it went wose after being transferred to sky so decided to jump ship.

So now Im getting

That's about what I get. No idea why I got an "F" grade when your's is just as bad as mine. I generally average 300 - 400 Kbps sometimes just over 400 if it's in a good mood.

Dirt cheap but you get what you pay for I guess...
 
to be fair standard adsl connections are about that speed.
have you asked talk talk about fibre optic upgrades? mine was only £5 a month more (chose the cheapest one) it should have been £10 a month more but tell them you cant affoard that and they will mess about a bit and haggle them selfs to suit you..

im so much happier with fibre optic even if its slow compared to some of the 120mb connections here..

I went from 300KB's max download to happily avaraging 2.2MB downloads.

i do think they should advertize speeds in B not b though seems to confuze a lot of people.
in generall i just devide the speed by 8 and get an idea of what my max download speed really is.
so to get 2.2MB a sec from a 23Mb connection is pretty good i think.
i really should test it out on a good solid web server.

Some of the upload speeds folks are getting here are awesome!

The only way we can get decent upload speeds in aus is if we have access to the real FTTP NBN - not too many more ppl will get that due to the retarded conservative gov we now have destroying the project!

what i dont get is, network transfers for me seem to peak at about 3MB/s (wired and wirless)
my downloads are about 4MB/s (wireless)
Ftp transfer to an xbox for instance "ata 33" is an avarage 11MB/s (wireless)

so why the heck is internal network transfers pc <> pc so slow?
Given that i can transfer files from C: to D: at about 44MB/s Why is network transfer less than 10th of that.
and if my network is so bad, why am i able to download faster (pretty much fully utilizing my download speeds from my isp)
I have tried a lot of reg tweaks and stuff dissabeling some windows components.changed how i share files. im on 7 x64, but i would argue that this issue has always existed on even previous versions of windows.

It's highly likely you have a run of the mill "cost reduced" WiFi design in your router with only a 2x2 or 2x3 antenna array design compared to the High-end Routers, (~$200) from eg Apple and ASUS, that use a proper 3x3 Antenna design*. This has a massive impact on the throughput you can get when doing wifi-to-wifi transfers that involve sending and receiving data at the same time and also allows for better performance thru walls etc.

*meaning it uses three sending and three receiving antennas to send and receive simultaneous streams of data. The base station can then use spatial division multiplexing (SDM) to split up data and send it over multiple streams for improved speed. Alternately, it can send redundant data on both streams for increased reliability
