Quite bizarre, might be worth disabling the on-board NIC in your PC and installing a genuine Intel PCIe GigE NIC - they can be had for peanuts these days but the performance is far superior to most of the cheap Realtek or Broadcom powered on-board NIC's.

makes no diference which pc or board it is. it is definatly some sort of windows issue (imo) you can google it and its not a uncommon thing.. but all the fixes i have tried dint really help lol. infact a couple of them made things worse.

would be nice if there was an app with all the known fixes set up and you just tick the boxes and click apply then test it, and keep doing that till it was better.
back when i was on dial up i had to use tcp optimizer to get the best out of windows for the internet. but thats not my issue any more.
it just seems pretty stupid that i can download faster than i can network transfer.
and if i actually need to transfer things between pc's i have to set up a ftp server on one and connect to it from the other. or just download the same large file to 2 computers at the same time, because downloading at 2MB/s on 2 pc's is faster than downloading at 4MB/s on pc A then transfering a copy via the network at 3MB/s to pc B.

What rating and age are your cables?

On my Windows network everything is using gigabit ports and a gigabit switch, with Cat6 cables, and I get transfers between machines of about 68MB/s.. and downloads about 9-10 MB/s.

Even when my network was a 100Mbit setup I normally got 11MB/s transfer between machines.

Sounds like something on your network is pulling everything down to 10Mbit network speeds.

pretty sure cat 5.
have a bunch of them, but i can FTP from one system to another at 11MB/s easy 22MB is not un heard of. Its just anything that uses the windows work group system is slow, (mshome/workgroup) i havent tested the speed of smb to media center systems, but i assume its about the same but thats not an issue as it dosent need to be any faster for that.
the thing that annoys me is large file transfers take longer to move around in the network than it takes to download the things.

i have tried to fix this problem a bunch of times. (reinstall all os's/edit registry/dissable ipv6/dissable home group/large send offload) none of it seems to help and some makes it slower. one day il do something that will fix it by accident. i just hope that i notice what it is lol.

My speed via speed test.net had dropped down to 4 megabits/sec on a 38 megabit fibre connection, i asked Sky and having done a few tests they told me to delete mozzilla browser history, clear all cookies and reboot the system - and they were right! Back to 38megabits.

Also they advised I should upgrade to the HD pack which i did for an extra £5 month (I remember a few years back the HD pack was a £20/month upgrade)

I asked about upgrading my 500gb Sky hd box and they said their new 2TB box can be mine for £200 fee, hmmm no thanks as I don't think its possible to copy contents of my old hd box to the new 2TB.

Is there anyway i can increase storage of my 500gb box or do i have to become more efficient at deleting films/series?

Not too bad. Getting a free update soon though, should become a bit higher still...

I'm on a mobile connection right now, I'll post my Home speed tomorrow (if i remember) :P

I've just recently moved and my new Internet speeds are absolutely abysmal! It's actually quite embarrassing. I'm stuck with a slow DSL connection as cable/fibre is not available at my end of the street :(. I'm currently with TalkTalk and i'm having issues already after only being with them a few days... My connection currently maxes at around 2Mbps when they said i'll be getting on average 6.8Mbps (which is still crap). I'm actually surprised that it still manages to run Netflix fine while Youtube is constantly buffering.

Thanks, i'll check it out :).

Anyway, i've been chatting to one of the TalkTalk guys and he tested the line for faults and couldn't find anything, he then also said they perform tests for the first 24 hours after activation and it also has a 10 day stabilisation period. I'll wait and see what happens after 10 days.
