Well, it had to happen eventually. Nipped away from the miggy for a while and got back to discover a black screen and a whining noise. Seems my C= 1084 has finally bitten the dust.

Ho hum.

That was a minutes silence of respect. May 1084 rest in peace...

Wait a minute... Why don't you just fix it?

Bunch of reasons. Firstly, I don't know how, I'm sadly not a monitor expert.

Secondly, I don't really have that much use for it. I offered it in the recycle bin on here once, but nobody wanted to come collect it. It was a nice-to-have, but it's not something I would've gone out of my way to own.

I imagine there will be mercury to take into consideration when disposal comes up too.

Disposal will involve me dragging it into work and leaving in the WEEE waste pile for someone to dispose of properly.

Have you disposed of the 1084 yet?
If you still have it I would be interested in the front flap, if it still as one, it's the right type and you are willing to send it to me. I have a 1084s d1 which I'm trying to restore.
i love these monitors, would have taken the monitor off you if we lived close enough for me to collect. Wait though you offered it in the recycle bin, what is this recycle bin I keep reading about?

I haven't. It's funny, I was just thinking about what I was going to do with it this morning.

Certainly, if I did get rid of it, I'd keep the flap and the cable, since they're often requested by folks.

As for the recycle bin, I've granted you access now. If you want the whole monitor, even in its broken state, I could probably get it couriered for about a tenner. I have no use or space for it at all, but can't bring myself to throw it out.

Once they go poof, fixing them will cost more than buying one, so I don't even bother, if the casing is good I will save it, if not, away they go.
I only kept my original 1084, which still works, minor fix done.
And I still have a few other 1084's and CM8833's.

But I'm going LCD/LED fast now, I'm downsizing on CRT's.

Thank you for for granting me access to the recycle bin.
I've had a look at you thread for the monitor, I think it's a different type to mine so the flap won't fit.
If you don't mind sending it, I'll take it. I'm not sure I can fix it but just had some success with my monitor and a1500 so in a pretty confidant mood were hardware is concerned.

You're more than welcome to it. I've updated the first post in my thread, so if you'd like to declare interest there, I'll get it wrapped up, weighed and quoted for shipping.

I've declared interest.
It's really good of you to offer shipping, I realise how difficult it will be to find sutible packaging for it.

Once you have the monitor, look for a replacement line output transformer or FBT for it.
The type you need will vary on the manufacturer tube fitted to the monitor..

These are relatively simple to repair as long as you take care, knowing Andy it is probably also in great condition...

Need help, you know where I am ;)

I think I've got about 6 of these down stairs in unknown condition

I do still prefer the 1942 or 1960 though

I should throw them out the only thing that stops me if the fact if I throw them out I've create a clean spot and need to throw too much else out LOL

This gave me an awesome idea... Could one not mount an LCD inside the casing?
