I love the way everyone talks about this "seller", it was till a while back I came across him on eBay and it clicked who everyone meant. There's many like that and thats my only complaint about eBay. I buy from there a lot, sometimes you just have to if u want something, but I've learnt to play the waiting game, everyone gets the chance at bargains I just wait till it's my turn. A friend of mine picked up 80 MD games from a lady who listed it for the price of a few expensive books, he paid and came away with a whats what in rare games, Sunset Riders, Warsong etc, lucky sod.

Why arent people saying "airey36"? :p:lol::shhh:

I thought they ment the other one:roll:. He's just as bad though and I'd avaoid either.

It's unfortunate that the Amiga suffers as a system more than any other as far as ebay goes. Luckly for me I'm more into 8-bit machines and consoles so avoid them in the main:D

Still waiting for my go at being lucky :)

Penfoldtmole?

Yeah I agress it suffers badly :( As does anything Nintendo. I hear traders at boot sales (in a southern accent) " got any video game?
Nintendos??" I dont think eBay is all that evil, but it does bring the greed out in people.

I also dont think any nightmare issues with buyers and seller are isolated to that site, it can (and does) happen here too, just not as much.
The good thing is that if you have anything to sell you can pretty much guarantee you will sell it on there. And in a reasonable period of time. Unfortunately it takes forever to sell stuff here and visibilty of your sale is very poor :(
Its great for little Buy It Nows for things such as cables etc. Last week I needed 2 different types of cables and some plastic door covers: found them, bought them, using them already :D

When people talk about bad sellers you have to think of the volume of people selling on there compared to say here. Just by the numbers there is going to be a hell of a lot more wrong 'uns over there as they have millions of users. As for the prices, well no one forces you to buy from them. I have bought some bits from the two mentioned sellers but for the most part I just chuckle to myself when I see the prices they ask for.

I think for my part it winds me up because it tars all ebay sellers with the same brush which is totally unfair. There are a number of sellers on there which I'm not only good friends with but I'd also say a salt of the earth but if you're an ebay seller you must be bad seems to be the general noise I hear.

Those 2 sellers I have bought from each also and will avoid both in the future but it doesn't put me of ebay. As for other sellers and poor packaging etc, I find it best to give clear instruction of how you would like to receive the parcel and if necessary tht you'd be happy to pay that little bit more for it. Once you offer a couple of quid extra for more packaging and a more reliable service they seem to be more understanding and careful

Don't worry, not all of us feel that way - some have just been burned by bad ones (as in my own anecdote), and it sort of sours things a little bit for a while. ;) It's just human nature for negative things to stand out more, as far as I know, unfortunately.

I actually think the bigger problem than given sellers, is the floods of dropshipped stuff, including counterfeit items, from DealExtreme and similar places, which makes it downright impossible to search for certain things, and often too risky to make a purchase.

I think there is pros and cons of buying and selling on sites like eBay, versus sites such as AmiBay or GumTree. I do however have a BIG problem with eBay/PayPal and a recent management decision/viewpoint that is completely unreasonable. And it is seriously making me second guess any future activities going through them. And trust me, I'm not one to make rush/spur of the moment decisions.

I am being very careful what I am stating here as I am aware that it is a no-go for an eBay ***** session to occur on this site. But, I feel that I may make my viewpoint clear on another well known Amiga site so people can see what I talking about. I feel very disillusioned with the eBay/PayPal system at the moment.

i can understand why people dont like airey's way of chopping up amigas and selling spare parts but bear in mind that some people actually need spare parts and would be unwilling to buy a lets say whole faulty a1200 for upper case or shielding or something. i have noticed that many amigists have to actually ask for permission from their wives or wait until next payday to buy stuff, shame on you ;) i've bought some joysticks and other stuff from him, his shipping is fast and reasonably priced. he's a broker so thats one of his jobs.

I think the issue is that he views Amiga's as a commodity, to be used to enrich himself financially and the people he sells too have a very different view. I used to buy a few bits and pieces from him, but when he started to cut up motherboards to "remove" chips to be sold, I stopped.
I always equate it to a scrap merchant. If you need the odd part for repair, no problem, but if you were a mini enthusiast and you went to a mini scrap dealer, and you saw him hack a replacement wing mirror off with an angle grinder, rather than spending time to un-bolt it, it may stick in your craw a little.

I don't really mind airey, I've bought a few things from him before including a blizzard accelerator for a very reasonable price.

Its penfold thats the pain in the neck for amiga owners, I decline to purchase from him

I've never had any problems with airey36 tbh. I've bought from him lots of times and been happy (and although not 'cheap' - he's not massively expensive)

Agreed! If penfold's pricing is anything to go by, I could be a millionaire by the end of the month
He was trying to sell an unboxed Amiga floppy for £xxx once :o :picard

Ok, more grist to the mill. I know I'll probably get flamed for posting this, but what the hell - to answer the OP's question, these are some recent (last month) experiences:

I won a rare A500 accelerator (I have a thing for A500 hardware), paid by Paypal, seller never sent it to me, didn't respond to my messages. I checked and this seller was getting feedback for selling while I was waiting, so she was clearly ignoring me. I eventually opened a case. I still never received the item, and eventually got a refund via paypal (I didn't want the refund, I wanted the item) She's since changed her feedback to private. I can't help but think someone messaged her and offered her money outside of ebay for it. At least this will impact her ability to sell on ebay (I guess?)

I was watching another A500 accelerator auction. It was suddenly removed from sale. I messaged the seller and asked whether she would be relisting it. No response. Again, I think someone offered her money outside of ebay, and she did not realise that it was valuable and took the money. Hey, these things happen, but its the concept of losing out because I play by the rules that bothers me. Shall I start spamming sellers and asking them to sell me the item outside of ebay??

A job lot of games - sniped by a well known ebay seller so he can sell on for a profit. Business is business, but I can't help feel a bit sad that it won't be a hobbyist working his way through the games re-living his youth. I don't think I have any right to demand anyone sells something to me, but I do expect a level playing field if I play by the rules.

Added to that the fact that I couldn't log in yesterday evening and missed the end of an auction. This meant that loads of sellers missed out on potentially higher end prices and buyers couldn't bid on items they might have won. Ebay have completely ignored all the people on their FB page, community pages etc complaining about the impact.

Hi guys!

This thread seems to have ran its course and we're really bordering on it becoming an eBay complaints thread so I'll go ahead and shut it down.

Thanks!

Heather
