Why I must charge big $$ for shipping with tracking while almost everything from China is shipped for free with tracking too.

Chinese companies get subsidized shipping!

So many people asked why I must charge so much for shipping with tracking while they can order items from China with tracking and often get free shipping or very cheap.

That's why. China put in place policies to destroy companies in the free world.

How true. Everything I have ordered from China takes forever to arrive. I avoid buying from China whenever possible, instead wanting to buy from honest regions.

Not sure why this is a problem unless you are trying to re-sell things you've imported from China.

@eslapion

It's a simple matter of supply and demand. Charge the amount(s) that you deem acceptable and the potential buyers will decide if they are willing to pay.

I assume you simply pass on the cost of packaging and shipping to customers and don’t markup / profit off S&H so your title is a bit mis-leading IMO. China gets treated like a poor developing country and gets special subsidized postage fees most other countries do not get.

Ask your government!!!

Nothing from china is being shipped for free ANYMORE.

Plenty of stuff is still being shipped for free. Just look at Aliexpess. They now even have warehouses in Hungary so that it appears that your stuff arrived from HU instead of CN and you don't pay any import duties.

As long as the customer gets what he wants for a cheap price, isnt that what free market and capitalism is about? Or is that over because of protectionism now? Or is Amazon an angel?

Unfair competition, perhaps ?

Customers ask me how come they get free shipping when buying anything from China but I must charge 8$ or more.

I agree it's annoying that this arrangement makes it harder to make money buying from China for resale. But if they had to charge postage, it would make Chinese products dearer for you as well, so does it make any difference? You're still having to charge your P&P on top? And make a profit?

I guess if you are reselling stuff from China that your customers could have bought direct, then you are competing on some sort of quality/timeliness criteria that you try to balance against your p&p costs:

- proximity to customer [faster shipping]? though Chinese sellers seem to have warehouses even in the UK
- QA of the items [they work as customers would expect for example]
- easier returns?

It is not only about "re-sale", it also penetrates stupid normal activities like in my case sending back an defective mini-pc for RMA by warranty covered from germany to the rma center in the UK. So the "shipping companies" come into play and forced me by (violating current laws) to pay them extra big money for things I have not given them authority to do so... in this case to fill out the importing tax border crap.... On top of these greed marges comes the extra importing tax. Then they sent me a letter with an invoice which is FALSE declarated from a to z. They are criminals. I already sued the german company GDSK years ago because they also violated laws and forced "their customers" to pay extraordinary fees for nearly nothing. They lost that case and this bullshit came to an end. With the brexit things have changed and some shipping companies trying the same criminal techniques again... I already set them a deadline for explaining all that crap. If this runs out - I'll order an lawyer to kick their asses.

Hmm, I'm currently waiting on a vr replacement facemask for Pico 4 to arrive from china, I'm gonna get stung by parcel force for tax on way in plus their "handling fee"...

They will even try to tax the dead, seriously.

Family in New York sent my wife's late fathers burial flag and other personal items
from is funeral because she couldn't be there at the time due to all the Covid lockdowns.

UK customs taxed my wife and Parcel Force slapped on their "handling fee". I
contacted customs to dispute these charges and recouped the taxes we paid, but we didn't
get any refund from Parcel Force.

That's aweful.

Switzerland is one of the worst countries regarding import customs. You even pay tax on the shipping fee. Seriously? Can't take those burocracy heinis serious anymore.

When I moved from Oregon to Zurich, sold my house, the new owner sent me some snow protectors i forgot there back by mail but reported a value of 100 dollars. That lead to a tax fee of nearly 30 franks, more than the stuff cost originally :ROFLMAO:

The swiss authorities didnt care even when I sent them a letter of objection. Said if they have to investigate more it will cost me a hefty fee...

On the other hand, receiving stuff from there in the US, no problem.

Good to be back in the US, for many reasons!
