Why, oh why, do they do this.....

Never quite get people getting so angry at what other people do to their own private property. Its the same as people who stick daft body kits on classic cars, dremeling cases to fit gotek drives, sticking stone cladding on lovely old victorian terraces etc... none of its to my taste and I wouldnt do it personaly but it doesnt make me angry either because its theirs to do with as they wish and if they intend to keep it forever then whats it matter?

What does amaze me though is these 'modifications' tend to be quite extreme, often very amature and very personal tatse and thus I never fail to be confounded when people stick them up for sale and ask a premium price under the expectectation that everyone shares their niche personal taste and it somehow adds value :D

Years ago, I had an unused A2000 in the cupboard. I didn't think I would ever give a stuff about it again. So, I used the case top as some air filter ducting on my turbocharged hatch :o I forget what I did with the rest of it.

Does that make you upset?

No one else seems to care about your turbocharged hatch! But please tell me it wasn't a Laser TX3 LOL

But I noticed your comment Paul! :D

I wouldnt get upset about what people do to their own property....but it is a shame to waste a C128D case on a Peeeeceeee....an A2000 case on a car....meh!

this is the only thing that bothers me as well...i don't really care what people do with their own stuff, but 128Ds were uncommon to begin with, I'd rather see a dead 128D used to make another dead one (or 2 or 3) functional again...

killing a live one to house a PC...not so much...just use an (dead) Amiga 1000 case (which seem to be more common at least) then .... (or order one of those newer 'amiga' style ones online)

and this has changed how?

(most of us computer (and particularly retro) enthusiasts need counselling of some sort, it's an addiction...)

Good point, but I don't think emotion is a bad thing.

I'd rather people get angry about something they have a passion for than not to be honest.

Within reason of course.

It's good to restrain yourself sometimes and not to let your emotions run away with you - we're all friends.

Its only people sticking up for their personal ideal harmony between capitalism and communism.

@ SaviorX

I share your view on this machine completely. I would have rather seen a restored 128D than a PC built inside the case.

If it runs a C128 emulator and passes the 'Turing Test', in that the user can't tell that it's a replica (like Justin's Walker machine, for example) then I am OK with it.

I'm definitely not angry about it. Like others, I would have rather seen the case used in the restoration of another 128D. :)

Aaaaarrrrgggghhh! MY EYES!!!! Delete that page immediately!

Bryce.

Was looking for some good ideas on how to fit my Gotek mod... picture 3 looks like a good way to do it - and I have a hot glue gun too :-)

Seriously, i'm not angry about this kind of stuff - Amiga's are 10 a penny and so readily available but in my first post, the guy is building an emulator 'rig' inside a 128D case so is aware of what 'retro' is and should know better. Bastardising stuff that has the potential to be or become rare is such a shame.

@ Bryce / all

I did warn people that this was likely to be a 'Rated R' thread. Now will you take my warnings seriously?

@ velourfog

You might have warned people with a 'Parental Advisory' first, before showing that carnage!

Yeah, I love all the Gotek mods that I see. I did an HxC mod on my A4000D Fascia but I took the time to make it look good and it was done using a spare yellowed fascia. I suppose I should call myself out on that to say it should have been used to restore another A4000D.

Bad me... Bad, bad me! :p

Was it an A4000 fascia, or just the floppy disk fascia? If it's the latter, you can butcher those as much as you like!

I'm also a big fan of PC hardware dying for the Amiga cause. I've cut up a few bits and pieces of PC stuff to do Amiga things with.
