This is and I think it should be stopped, this guy claims that what he is selling is with in the law.
Cant be right as it must come with Workbench (copyrighted)
The games on there must be copyrighted ok some mayby (Abandware now)
this is piracy,has to be.

Or am I wrong.

Sorry MegaMix, I had to edit your link as this most likely links to unauthorised copyrighted material. I know you didn't mean it that way so please dont worry

Its bullshit indeed.

They are even using ClassicWB! Which I guess shouldn't be too surprising.

I like their part about errors with CF cards. Sounds like they don't know how to set the MaxTransfer or was just using the cheapest hong kong cards they could find.

LOL @ at all the games being in the Public Domain

@MegaMix

I would say that the link deffinately contians material that infringes copyright (hence I had to edit your link). However it is not for us (you, I or AmiBay) to police other peoples copyright as we are not the legal party.

If you feell stongly enough you can contact eBay on the matter, and pending their mood, and the astral conjunction they may remove the auction.

Arguably its hypocrtical to use this "work" at home and complain about some one selling it.... both are types of copy right infringement, one being sharing, the other being perhaps the closest thing to the buzz-word Piracy

To me this hurts not the developers as they dont make any money as these are not retailed anywhere, whom it hurst is the sensability of the those that gave thier time free to the community in making WHDLoad installs, programs and software upgrades.

I have reported this item as it actually infringes on my copyright of AG-Launch...

AG-Launch is FREE and under the terms of the license cannot be charged for even if you put it on media.

I am sure I know whom it is that is selling these, and is a fellow AmiBayer, for that I would ask in future you ask permission before you sell mine, and other fellow community members work.

I appreciate that the members sees this as a service, and arguably so, but if I (and others) give our time free, then so should the provider and only charge a nominal fee for components and postage.

I wasn't gonna bother with it untill I saw the postage price that doubled the asking price.... thats a some what bad form

he will sell them and the A600 in no time...there are many people out there who will use others hard work and ingenuity in order to profit for themselves :( but like i said, he will sell them in no time because there is a market for things like that.

I think the part I take offense to is:

NOTE TO EBAY:
All software used is freely available in the public domain. This sale does not commit any violation of copyright ownership or copy regulations and adheres completely with all of eBay's rules and regulations. This Hard Drive is intended to save the time and effort of downloading and installing the freely available software on a Compact Flash Hard Drive specially prepared to be used in the Amiga vintage computers and run every Amiga game.

That is 100% made up. The kickstarts and workbench most certainly aren't public domain. While a few of the games included in the package have been added to the PD, I am doubting he found 2700 of them to add to this collection.

I wonder if he is using a pirated WHDLoad key as well?

We might all just use a wink and a nudge when we talk about loading up our home machines with WHDLoad installs, but there is a big difference between for our home use versus someone who is trying to profit off of others work. They are profiting and still claiming what they are doing is 100% legal!

What an idiot!

£18.99 postage? Yeah, by a gold plated courier? Fee avoidance anyone?

I took offense to that part too. Its a blatant lie to get round eBay.

Sorry Z I was not thinking.

@Zeets, if this is a fellow Amibayer - I hope you have taken steps to remove him from our environment here. I really don't want dudes like that polluting our wee community.

oh come on, get a grip, the vast majority of you - myself included have spent the last 20+ years playing pirated games and using pirated software. What right have any of us got to jump on our moral high horse?

Its hypocrisy of the highest order.

I understand there are members here who have created software and are complaining that the seller is infringeing on there copyrights etc. (This is not a dig at anyone here) but come on be realistic.

You can't spend many many many years avoiding paying for games by using pirated releases and then complain when somebody has the cheek to infringe on YOUR copyright, its beyond hypocritical. and any Amiga user who claims never to have used pirated software..... LOL yeah right.

I think our problem is with this person making money off of others work. Its not like the CF card and adapter are being sold at cost. Plus that terribly high shipping charge designed to earn the seller more money.

And having the audacity to claim it all public domain when it most certainly is not.

You are absolutely right, and I agree with your sentiment.

BUT I never tried selling my pirated gear to unsuspecting saps.

Exactly. There's a World of difference between owning pirated software and selling it.

Can we all put the torches and pitchforks down now, please?

Ok fair enough, i can see why people profiteering of others work would cause annoyance.:)

To quote a famous saying "Thiefs are always the first to complain when somebody steals from them" :D

Such a good point mentioned above with regards using but also the profiteering from it.

It has now been removed from sale.

The cheek to say it is PD software...PAH!

looks to have gone...

Out of interest I had another look around and there are loads for sale on there.
I was only looking to buy a CF card type hard drive for my 1200 and these came up.
