WII U?

Well as expected Mario Kart doesn't disappoint :) Loving it so far. Sure it's just more of the same, but playing it in HD is worth the purchase alone. If anyone here gets it and wants to play online, just let me know!

going to get this for 3 reasons

1:- its fun and we play as a family
2:- it's cheap less than £35 if you look around
3:- you get a free 2nd game if you buy before end of July, I think I will be getting Pikmin 3 :D

so 2 games for £35 aint to bad.

also I know its older but there is an offer for Assassins Creed III for £2.95 Wii U

I got it from Argos where you also get a free copy of Metroid too, so two free games! :) I got Zelda as the free download.

I think it is a great system, most fun I have had playing games recently have been Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D world and now Mario Kart. The only console that is used when I have a group of mates over, Nintendoland was a must after pub session game after launch for a good year.

Shame Nintendo advertised it poorly and everyone just thinks it is a Wii touchscreen add-on.

+1 agree

its a lot more powerful than an Xbox 360 and that fact is not really pushed i think harms the sales. it could do a lot more but I have to admit I like the Mario cartoon plat formers :)

I recently got the original Wii and it was a massive let down for me :( I just couldnt get into Mario Galaxy 2, Parper Mario etc etc. To be quite blunt, its the crappy controller that let it down. Would you guys say a Wii U is worth getting? Is it more of a "traditional" type console than the Wii was?

Just got a Wii U console off here (had it a week) with a load of games - I wanted it for the new Super Mario 3D World - but I've since bought Mario Kart 8 too (and got Pikmin 3 as my freebie)... so as an addicted consolite (is that a word ?) what do I think ?

Well...

I've played 3 of the 11 games I now own, and I think it's brilliant - far (far) better than I was expecting - both Mario games in HD transform the games. Ive already played with the console as much as my PS4 (the Xbox One Day One Forza pack lies unopened in a box till decent games come out that I like - I know, more money than sense).

I've even played MK8 online (I NEVER go online). I was awful but managed two 7th places lol - I really need to learn those new courses.

For me its put the fun back into console gaming. The PS4 and XBone seem to take themselves too seriously somehow....

I've even been naughty and hacked it to play Wii games from my hard drive - so I can replace the Wii under the TV. I'm very happy with mine - Take the plunge!!!

Although I loved Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, I agree the remote/nunchuck control system is weird, especially as I'm left handed so it didn't really feel right whichever way I held it. But I got used to it eventually and they are just as good as any other Mario game (I strongly suggest picking up Mario Galaxy 1!) The Wii U gamepad is much more like a traditional gamepad, so if that's all that is putting you off than go for it. The interactivity on the pad is cool too, eg on Zelda it shows the map, MK8 shows the course etc.

It just boils down to wether you like Nintendo games or not - they have always been 'family' systems so they are never going to appeal to some people, but if you like any of the old Nintendo systems and games, there's no reason not to love the Wii U too.

Thanks Edd  I do love Nintendo and yes it was the control system on the Wii that let me down. Im going to get the "must have" games for it then leave it alone for a bit. From what youre saying it sounds like the Wii U is more up my street so I reckon Ill get hold of one soon :)

Although the console did not make a huge sales impact Nintendo always seem to pull the hat out of the bag, I just wish it had better 3rd party support and wish it good luck.

I mean who else goes to the trouble of making video's to the fans and the top man himself, I watched the 35 minutes docu/advert of Mario Kart 8 and it was interesting, a bit patronising but it is aimed at the younger audience.
I've always enjoyed Nintendo products all the way back to the late 70's putting coins into Donkey Kong games. :D

What I can say about Nintendo games is there re-playablilty, ive never re-played games on any other system, mario 64 & pilot wings many times, luigi's Mansion and mario sunshine, Zelda Wind waker, pikmin , the list goes on,

I even Emailed Nintendo about Pilot Wings for the Wii U back in August 2013

Is there any news on the possibility of a new version of Pilot Wings for the Wii-U console. (not virtual console a completely new version that takes advantage of the HD graphics and Wii-U Tablet)

anywhere I can vote to try bring this to Nintendo’s attention ?

thanks,

and generic reply,

@Taj, the wii U's controller is quite comfortable and ergonomic, despite it's large size, and is a lot better than the wiimotes.
One added bonus of the Wii U is that Wii games are displayed via the HDMI output, rather than the awful composite of the Wii. It makes a huge difference, especially on bigger screens.

The Deal is HERE, looks ace, and if Argos are dishing out a freebie too, I'll be off there this week. It is for my Son's birthday after all. Cough, cough. :D

Yes, it really is very comfortable and quite light. Much more than it has any right to be with that size :)

Thanks for all the info guys, Im going to keep my eye out for a good Wii U bundle, and I might just buy that Mario Kart offer at Argos now anyway :D

I think the current console war is so interesting

PS4 is doing well at the moment, MS is trying very hard to catch up with them and Wii U is well, where it is. So much could happen over the next year though, I think PS4 sales might peak this year and then go pretty flat (ie the console market will reach saturation point much earlier than expected). I don't think MS will catch the PS4 now, maybe in the US market they can be the leaders but I can't see it happening globally.

The Wii U is a really hard one to call. It started off disastrously but it could still go in a few different directions. One possibility is that Nintendo will redesign it (a Wii U light) and unbundle the stupid touch pad thing (reduce the price) or they may bring out a new model with a capacitive HD control pad or they may just keep the current hardware and still manage to carve out a reasonable market share with just software releases alone.

Who knows, time will tell :)

Personally, I think it would be suicide to unbundle the stupid touch pad thing. It's what sets the Wii U above the competition.

I do think it's funny that people have no problem dishing out £400+ for a standalone PS4 or Xbox One, yet think £240 for a Wii U is a rip off even though it comes with an LCD controller AND a free premium game, eg the new Mario Kart bundle:

I agree Nintendo have made some mistakes, but the price is one thing I don't think can be criticized.
