Windows 10? Constantly Windows Updated so oftens!

just right click the windows icon, all the stuff you could possibly want is right there :)

If you respect your privacy then stay clear of Win10. Actually, it's not only that, if you can handle Linux, it's fantastic (together with Amiga of course).

or learn the OS and turn off some stuff

the problem you have is you are geeks and not the masses, the masses don't want to be involved the day today use of the OS but you don't see that because you think everyone is like you :)
10 isn't good for normies who want their computer to just work, either - the constant updates not only get in the way at the most inopportune times, they rejigger things they have no business touching, change out old stable drivers for questionable new ones or just remove them altogether (I've witnessed multiple clients who continually lost their printer to Vanishing Driver Syndrome every time the Update Fairy waved her wand,) and occasionally just break the system altogether. (And don't get me started on the number of things the broken-ass high-DPI upscaling screws up!) That's enough of a pain in the ass for those of us who know how to fix these things; ordinary users definitely don't need to have to deal with it.

Until they take it away because they've decided you don't need to have that choice anymore - just like they did with the option to turn off that damned HTML file + folder pairing.

Windows 10, and 8/8.1 for that matter are products of Android snagging over 50% of the overall OS market, and Microsoft wanting to sell more OS's... trouble is, they SHOULD have continued with a proper desktop OS and done 8/10 as separate 'mobile' OS's (remember WindowsCE?), presumably the desktop OS market, once Microsoft's bread and butter, has shrunk enough that they don't *really* care about it any more...

You are right about updating all the time but so does the Mac I have a update on one or the other every couple of weeks. Some times I am afraid to do them right away because I have heard of too many stories of the computer screwing up afterwards so I end up waiting.

I have a modern laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 10. Needless to say, at the most random moments I experience updates. For example, I close the lid and when I open it again after some time, the laptop has rebooted and all of my work is gone with updates installed. I have tried disabling everything in the settings menu, but it still takes place. This is probably the most annoying thing on Windows 10, I have experienced. Other than that, I have no qualms with it.

How do I schedule updates in Windows 10?

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update . Select Schedule the restart and choose a time that's convenient for you. Note: You can set active hours to make sure your device only restarts for updates when you're not using your PC

I had a buddy who called me because he could not do anything to log into his Win10 laptop, simply wouldn't allow him to type in his password... sitting there playing with it... turns out, it was updating the keyboard drivers in the background as soon as it loaded up, but before anyone logged in, so the keyboard was 'disengaged' as the drivers were basically 'locked'... and as he kept shutting it down and restarting, it had to re-do the drivers each time... stupidest thing I've ever seen...

Which would be nice, if it actually listened to you. My work PC never reboots during off hours, even when I expressly tell it to reboot during off hours, and keeps pestering me during the workday to reboot for the updates it didn't reboot for during off hours.

I want an OS where I'll do whatever I want, not an OS that does whatever it wants. ;-)

Sure, almost any people want that, but honestly, it's kinda wishful thinking in this case...

I back up what Justin posted. You can even make w10 a useable OS by patching it a bit (removing the obvious crap like telemetry). Sadly with any (big) update to need to patch it again as m$ knows about and wants to bring back that crappy "features" all the time.

This reminds me of the weirdest error message already: "ERROR! No keyboard found. Press F1 to continue." :D

There are ways to disable Win10 updating.... The last update on my system was November 2017.... I've had no problems, but I don't use my PC for anything that serious, so I'm not worried.
