Closed X-Calibur or 040 for a4000

HI guys I am looking for a working X-Calibur for my 3640 or if someone has an 040 going I am not looking for anything high spec at the moment even another 040 maybe with a broken ram socket that will at least take some extra working ram would do.

I like the Idea of the X-Calibur but have only seen one on Evil bay go for less than a hundred

I see you've got a Mediator. The cheapest solution would be to dump the Voodoo and get a Radeon 9200/9250 PCI gfx card with 256Mbytes of RAM. The latest drivers can share some of that RAM as system memory. You could get one for under £20 on eBay. Or ask here?

Just make sure you get a 5v version.

good luck on the x-calibur. I've seen it come up only once in like 7 years ...

better head for an accelerator with ram, (yes, it will probably be cheaper than the mythic x-calibur) or zorro ram (no it wont be as fast as the ram on a blizzard.)

Zorram is slightly faster, but other than benchmarks you'll probably notice no difference.

Plus the Radeon is a hell of a lot cheaper. You've spent your money when you got the Mediator.

Thanks for the help so far I have a Radeon but it is the 5v version so now have to source the 3.3 version anybody know of one going at the moment? please. I am going to be putting up some bits from my A4000D which I don't need any more so if anyone wants a swap I would be willing

Putting up:

5v Radeon 128mb (seen in PCI info when in the mediator 4000D)
Revision B daughter board
A3200 with the 32mhz crystal and 33 mhz 68882
Data flyer Ram card 8mb
May have Two 8mb Simms as well double sided they don't fit my A4000 mb as the sockets were changed for new ones by Hickey.

Surely you mean the other way around? The Mediator 4000Di only takes 5v cards!

If you have a 5v Radeon that doesn't work chances are it is a video BIOS problem not a voltage problem. Try the latest PCI libs and Radeon driver? Then try a different make Radeon 5v card?

Now I am confused according to Elbox my version will not work but if I then update the bios I could get it to work is that right?

its funny in the old days I did something like this with a MAC Voodoo 5 updated the bios to the PC latest and it worked a dream in my old A1200 PPC system.

Probably not. I'm saying that the BIOS on the gfx card has to be compatible with the software. Later versions of PCI library and gfx card driver are likely to support more combinations of 9200 BIOS. But that is pure speculation on my part.

It certainly has nothing to do with voltage. If you get a 3.3v card it won't fit & work in your Mediator.
