When I had to let go of my work laptop that had a parallel port, I had a dilemma how to get my Willem eprom programmer connected to my home PeeCee that didn't have such port. And if that wasn't enough, I had to get it working with a 64 bit edition of Windows 7 too.

I found this very helpful guide by Doug Brown. In a nutshell, you need a PCI or PCIe card that has a parallel port, TVicPort toolkit and 64 bit iodllwrapper. The dllwrapper is made by Toni Wilen but Doug modified it to accept a non standard io address for the card that he had.

On the hardware side, you'll need a card that is 64 bit combatible. I first bought an el cheapo PCI card utilizing a VSCom chipset, which at first wouldn't work at all. I managed to find a 64 bit driver but even after that it caused all kinds of quirks in my system so that I had to run system restore after uninstalling the card. It also didn't display the io address for the port in device manager. I then bought this PCIe 1x card made by Delock. That installed nicely and I could see the io address for the port.

Then it was just the matter of installing TVicPort, copying io.dll and io.ini to Willem SW directory and editing the io.ini to contain the io address of my LPT port and voila! We have connetion to Willem!

I've already burned a set of Atari STe 2.06 ROMs and I'm considering getting a 16 bit adapter for my Willem so that I can burn Amiga ROMs.

Hope this is helpful information for someone.

Congrats, mate.:bowdown:

That's the Amibay spirit! Leaving useful information for people that may need it one day.

Thanks for the useful info mate.
I guess the simple PC Card Express to Parallel won't work cause most of times the driver only makes an Printer only Port.

Fantastic info mate! I'm dragging out an old old PIII machine every time I want to burn some EPROMS! Nice to know it can be done in Windows 7! Only problem I have is that all the PeeCees in my house are laptops! I have wondered if an el cheapo USB to parallel adapter would ever work, but I figured probably not so haven't bothered trying.

Thank Doug Brown, he did the dirty work. I'm just passing along the info and sharing my own experiences. :)

@Phipscube:
I tried one USB to parallel adapter and no dice. Also based on what I've found out by googling, it won't work.

I simply dropped using a parallel burner because of this. Currently I'm using a reasonable USB unit which accepts EPROM chips up to 48 pins.

I bought GQ-4X USB programmer, added an external power supply and a couple of adapters and she works great in Win7 X64.

Well my thread became handy when I took my Willem into use after a long break. I had upgraded my machine in the meantime, so it wouldn't work.

I dug out this thread and went through all the instructions. Turns out that the new motherboard had assigned a different address to my parallel port. I changed that and we are back in business. :)

Can verify that the Willem works with Win10 too.
