    trouble updating the firmware...

Updating my SCSI2SD V6's were a royal pain in the rear, even with the driver. But it can and does eventually work. It took me 6 different USB cables and trying 3 different USB ports on my Win 7 machine, but it did eventually work. The update to the latest firmware is worth the effort.

Rusty and instable motherboard A500 rev8a

That's good you've got the old battery out. Leaking batteries will lead to nasty problems. Yes, the pin form factor has changed over the years. They went to a more needle or nail like style as the old sword like style were subject to bending and breaking much easier. But either pin style...

    Promodule disk problem

There could be oxidation on the socket pins or on the chip pins. Try cleaning and reseating the chips to see if that helps. It wouldn't be the first time that a socketed chip needed to be reseated after shipping.

Rusty and instable motherboard A500 rev8a

Ah. A Rev 8a board without the battery and clock circuit is a bit of a rare thing. On the trap door memory module, you'll want to remove the leaking battery and clean up that board as soon as you can. Once the board is clean, neutralize the battery leakage with vinegar, then clean again...

Rusty and instable motherboard A500 rev8a

You're welcome. Rubbing alcohol, an old toothbrush, and a toothpick or needle to gently get into the socket. Is there any signs of the battery leaking or corrosion around the battery?

    Faulty 2000 motherboard v4.5 ??????

Could be RAM, could be ROM as well. Try reseating all the socketed chips to see if that helps.

Rusty and instable motherboard A500 rev8a

It's not uncommon for some boards to develop corrosion on the sockets and chips. In many cases a good cleaning to remove the corrosion will help as the corrosion is conductive. Other times the chip sockets will have broken solder joints and these will need to be fixed. A few pictures would...

    Amiga 2000 - Zorro Troubles

Hopefully all the boards will be detected for you with latch mode! For me, with the adapter in momentary mode it would power on for a moment then shut down. If I held the momentary switch down it would power up, I can't remember for sure if all my cards were detected or not when I did that.

    Amiga 2000 - Zorro Troubles

Are you using the latch mode or momentary mode with the ATX adapter? I have one of Ian's ATX adpaters in one of my A3000's and once I put all the cards back in, it wouldn't start up. With no cards or only a couple, it was fine, but fully loaded, it was a no go. I traced the problem back to...

Amiga 3000 Upgraded with 32 Zip Chips

Have a good vacation there! When you get back, take a good look at the solder points on the ZIP sockets. I was reading some reports where people have found that not all the connections on the ZIP sockets were actually soldered.

Amiga 3000 Upgraded with 32 Zip Chips

That's good progress in that all the ZIPs work and banks 0 and 1 are okay. So something is certainly not right with bank 2. It is a good idea to check the solder joints on the ZIP sockets. A broken solder joint will cause issues. What revision is the motherboard? From what you describe it...

Amiga 3000 Upgraded with 32 Zip Chips

Also, take it step by step. Install 2MB of ZIPs at a time. The ZIP sockets may also have oxidation on them, causing bad connections, and should be cleaned. Check for bent or improperly inserted ZIPs. ZIPs are notorious for not going in properly. A couple ZIPs not seated properly has caused...

    A2000 and diagrom output

Also, check all the sockets to see if any are broken/cracked, make sure the solder points on all the sockets are still secure. Sometimes on these old machines a cold solder point will break, causing bad behaviour. Clean the PSU and motherboard power connectors with rubbing alcohol. The...

    A3000D and A3630

If you take your A3630 out and revert the jumpers your A3000 won't boot? Are you sure you got all the jumpers back? On a 16MHz A3000 there are a couple of extra jumpers that need to be set/reset. Options. - find and install an FPU onto the A3630 - I think I read somewhere that there is a...

CF Card vs SD Card - HDD replacement for A600/1200

I have a CF to IDE, but then use a CF to SD adaptor since SD cards are a lot cheaper than CF cards.
