I think there's a missing PLD (location normally unpopulated) on the A4000 mobo that is needed for it to work with the 020. It's just to the right of the front panel led headers.

how are you testing? I have an FB357A, and running it outside the amiga, it spins at 300 rpm regardless of disk type, so it seems that it only drops to 150 rpm in case the amiga has actually read out the id bit stream (this is my theory, anyway). That also allows it to always run at DD speed in...

Mine has an FB357A, which is 30mm tall, and as said, it doesn't look like it allows fitting a secondary floppy under it... The FZ357A must be the one that allows two then, but if replacement front bezels are available, I don't know...

My Chinon FB-357A has at least one of those (47 uF).

mine says Rev B on the silk screen, but also has a sticker next to the serial number sticker, which says "A4000 Card Rev G".. So there ;-)

the xilinx is a CPLD/FPGA type of device, not a dedicated network chip.. DP8421 is a DRAM controller, so likely for the four sims... Intel P82592 is a network controller chip, so likely this could be a PIC containing an AUI interface, but the memory and processing power suggests that it is...

I would just get an AMD part and not risk getting a counterfeit "original" from china.. PLCC->DIP adapters are available abundantly for a few quid.. The reason for 44 pins on the PLCC is that there is no such thing as a 40 pin PLCC, and the nearest larger size is 44.
