Hi all,

this one seems to have passed me by - but I'm guessing it's probably well known (just not to me! :( )

I purchased a replacement A4000 floppy drive and it's too small (in height). It seems to be exactly half the height of the space on the front, where as my floppy covers are 2 differing heights - one larger than a 'normal' floppy drive, and one smaller.

Looking around the internets, it seems that there's both types in existence - one that comes with a normal height floppy drive and a normal sized cover (both covering half the space each), And then there's the one like mine, where the floppy drive is over half the height and the cover at the bottom is somewhat shorter.

Is this true, or am I imagining it..?

Thanks!

Don't worry, nowt wrong with your mental sanity, there are indeed 2 sizes FDDs, the older high one, and the newer slim one.:)

OK, at least I'm not mad :) - but what was the short-height cover for like mine - what would even fit in there?

Meanwhile, I have a new floppy drive that doesn't fit in my case... :(

The odd sized HD floppy drive was released along with the initial A4000Ds. I pre-ordered the A4000D and was really disappointed that I couldn't add anything else below the floppy drive due to the odd size. Commodore wised up and later switched to the standard size drive.

*Brainwave* I buy a second internal drive then there's no problem - yes!

Means I can get rid of the external one too... :)

With two slim drives, and they're not even slim, but 1" high, you can mount them both, while you can only mount 1 high model, leaving you with some unused space.

Mine has an FB357A, which is 30mm tall, and as said, it doesn't look like it allows fitting a secondary floppy under it... The FZ357A must be the one that allows two then, but if replacement front bezels are available, I don't know...

I wonder if there is a slim piece of plastic that is availiable (or can be made/printed) to fill this gap, as I have same issue, a slim floppy and gotek with a gap!!

I seem to recall some files for Amiga odd bits that were available on the maker sites.
