Wish I had the cash for one of these :( lol

Hello All,

I'm close to get one piece but Petro is asking me 19% VAT. Was it the same for you? As it is for export (for him), I don't understand why he charges this... As far as I know, I should only pay swiss VAT, which is 8%. Or is this clearly stated on the invoice and then the customs can retrieve their money?

Thank you very much for your answer!

I'm not sure,it could be down to the many European trade deals in place or he may have no idea about Switzerlands non EU status. Ask him.

I'd buy one if it wasn't for the signatures... Pity.

I thought those i saw with it was signed by choice. but everyone is? It's damn hard (to impossible) to remove permanent marker from the plastic. I've been treating my acorn a3020 to remove it by using alcohol - but while it is faint, it is still there.

If it was signed by the late Jay Miner or one of the other famous heads behind the amiga, I would however like one.

I thought the signing was definitely optional? That said, IMHO petro IS an amiga legend and I'd be quite happy to have an amiga signed by him.

It IS optional.
And what he did for Amiga is legendary:
"During the dark days in the 90's, post-Commodore-bankruptcy, there was one man who kept hope alive for the Amiga faithful. One generously proportioned man who, armed with nothing but the vague wisps of an ethereal dream and some Amiga soda cans, kept it all going."

Petro used to be CEO of Commodore and after bankruptcy of Commodore and when Escom AG got hands on everything, Petro started up Amiga Technologies GmbH in Germany and basically made sure the Amiga-brand didn't fall into pieces. He was the one who got the idea of the Amiga Walker

His bio:
Petro Tyschtschenko started with Commodore in October 1982. He was responsible for Sales Logistic and Purchasing with Commodore Germany. He was then promoted to Director of International Material Management and Logistic in 1986. He was first responsible for Europe and than for the world wide Logistic Operation. In 1994 Commodore went bankrupt and Tyschtschenko managed the deal between the bankruptcy court in New York and ESCOM AG, which acquired successful all the intellectual property of Commodore and Amiga in 1995. He revived the Amiga A 1200 and Amiga A 4000 production and was acting as a President of Amiga Technologies GmbH in Bensheim. In 1996 ESCOM AG went bankrupt and again Petro managed the deal between the German liquidator and and a new buyer. Gateway, Inc. acquired all existing assets from Amiga Technologies.

Before Commodore, Petro held key management positions at 3M, Pegulan AG, Felten & Guilleaume AG and AM International.
So, thanks to Petro... we still are able to enjoy Amiga's and is Amiga Incorporated still an existing company..

And yes, I asked him to sign the bottom of the Amiga, not the top. Still, I think I'll leave it right there..

@ WHiZZi - as said by somebody else, your PSU isn't second hand, it's just discoloured with age (just like most Amiga's have.) It can happen in a box even if not used, mine was the same.

The signature comes off very easily with surgical spirit leaving no trace at all. I was lucky, my box was almost perfect. The only imperfections were slightly broken internal cardboard as most people have, and discoloured PSU/mouse cables. Mine was from the first batch. Here's some photos:

Well, he did his best to keep Amiga alive while under the Escom AG-flag as CEO of Amiga Technologies. Also he used to be CEO of Commodore, so he actually did things.

I also have an autograph of RJ Mical ;-)
He is also the same guy who give away some copies of the OS3.5 CD in an Amiga show, long years ago.

Looks like I might be getting one of the very last units :)

After looking up Petro I've decided that I want him to sign the bottom of my case seeing as he is an Amiga legend!

As of today, my Petro-Amiga died.. probably caused by the capacitors who are not functioning the way they should.

When I got the Amiga, it started up and the same evening I installed the Indivision MK2 and CFcard and on that the Workbench 3.1.

Because I had to wait (still am as a matter of fact) I didn't use the Amiga at all, workbench was booting and it all seemed fine. Yesterday I re-opened the Amiga to put some stuff on the CF-card (like high-res drivers, WHDLoad, MagicWB and such). Put the CF card back and booted, no problems. Started to unpack things and at the third or forth unpack the screen went all crazy, like old TV systems do when they don't have signal..

Ok, soft reboot and everything came back just as normal. Weird.. ok, unpacking again, installing, unpacking and again.. hmm..

So, power off the whole Amiga. Give it a rest for 5 min and booted again. No problems.

So, I went on unpacking / installing and then it did the same again. And that's the last time I've seen my half-ready MagicWB install... :(

Currently, the Amiga stays in a reboot loop and doesn't give any output. Even without the Indivision (tested it) it simply doesn't give any signal (apart from, hey, here's a signal that I'm connected.. so, TV is autoswitching to the correct channel)

This is what the Amiga does at this moment:

Sometimes it does something like this:

(it's yellow)

also this one I've seen at least 3 times:

So, I'm guessing/hoping a capacitor replacement will fix this. It does look like it (as I've heard).

It's reads the boot partition of my CF, but immediately goes into flash-the-power-light (3 times) and rebooting (and doing exactly the same). When I put in a FDD (Install WB 3.1), it reads that and sometimes it looks like it's actually booting from it. No output whatsoever (with or without Indivision)

Rly Petro manged to sell all 1500 of them!? surprised. I'm still dithering, perhaps I need to stop!

Sounds like thé reset circuit issue... This is where the reset circuit thinks the keyboard is continously sending a soft reset response to the motherboard.. thought that issue was more prevalent on 600's though?

It still responds to a soft reset.
The situation is
Poweron
Powerlight on Amiga goes on, half light
Powerlight on Amiga goes on, full light
CF/FDD is being read
Powerlight starts to flash between half and full light
Reboot to poweron state

When flashing is happening, I can soft reset the Amiga, caps lock light works as expected..

I had various problems with A1200 with turbo boards doing this, mostly related to psu, contact problems, memory etc.. (and low voltage due to A1200 not designed properly for high specced turbo boards)

If this kit is running barebone, replacing caps would be indeed good idea.

Strange thing is, I had a A600 giving scrambled graphics, but it was a cap problem, but when replacing the psu with an atx the problem went away for a few weeks, and then same problem..

It's literally a bare bone one, only an Indivision Mk-II but same result when this one is removed.

Also, in all honesty, it does have one IDE2CF and a CF on board, but I highly doubt that's the problem.
I already found a guy who can replace the caps, I'll keep you guys informed.

So, if you got a Petro A1200, you're probably end up with the same as I have and hopefully a caps replacement fixes it.

Have you tried toothpaste? It works wonders on CDs and CD cases.

Did any other folks outside Germany suffer from Petros bank charging him to receive your funds transfer? Petro has just advised me he got 20.50€ less than I sent him when I sent him the precise amount in euros and paid all the fees up front inc currency conversion! :(

Here in Aus the banks all work on a sender pays principal and aren't allowed to slug you just for receiving funds electronically! Not a happy camper right now!
