A million to replace the system. I hope that means a complete rewamp of the entire chain, and not just a new computer with a different communication method and a crazy expensive custom software done by fork-billing engineers.

It is brilliant when you read something like this. It actually highlights that most current computers are complete overkill for the purposes they are being used for. Small computers running a very lightweight OS is all that is needed for a lot of purposes.. these days that probably means an ARM processor and a cut down distro of Linux, but with Workbench fitting on a single floppy disk you can't get much more lightweight than that and it is mad that no one has utilised and cashed in on the great OS we all love.

There are a lot of powerful enough MCUs and lightweight in sw.
