I was at work yesterday and I had been working hard that morning, getting a waste consignment ready for shipping.

At about 2pm, I walked from the Lab Block to the Admin Block, a distance of about 50 feet. As I walked, I felt 'cold to the bone' and came up in goosebumps and felt generally rough. I was shivering and I thought my blood sugars might have gone a bit low so I had some sugary water (blechh) and a biscuit.

I left work at 3pm and had a bath when I got home, as I was pretty mucky from the day's work. I then went to bed as I didn't feel well at all.

I asked my son Paul to fetch the digital thermometer and according to the readout my temperature was 38.8 degrees!! My pulse was 130 and I really did feel crap. I was considering calling the Doctor out but all I really wanted to do was sleep.

By the evening my sugar level was 8 (normal) and I couldn't face anything to eat, so I have basically slept through until about 9am this morning. I still feel a bit dizzy, washed out and hot but I feel better than I did late yesterday.

What I want to know is this; what the :censored: was it that hit me like a train yesterday lunchtime, to make me feel so crappy later in the day?

Sounds just like what I had last week buddy...
It will pass

Hope you feel better soon...
TC ;)

Glad that you feel better Dave.

Don't worry, that's a common problem nowadays unfortunately. The air in general isn't the cleanest of the world. A lot of invisible viruses are travelling all the time...

Hope you're ok now mate. Sounds like it wasn't very nice at all!

Take it easy!

J

Take it steady for a while bud I know its hard in this life with so much to to but if you feel a little off go to the quacks and have quick check up;)

Something is taking out one person at a time at my workplace at the moment. They're reporting terrible headaches and constantly feeling sick - although not actually being sick. Very strange...

Take care Dave mate. I got some sort of cold the previous week so it was hard for me as well till yesterday.
I hope you'll feel really good soon man.

All the best

I had Virus last week and I am glad it is gone :)

Get well Soon Man

Take it steady Dave, there's a lot of things going about at the moment.

The last cold or flu thing I had was about 10 years ago, but I've had somrthing for 12 days now, no cold or flu symptoms except a really dry, irritating cough which keeps me up all night. I'm pretty sure I caught this off my Sister. Strange thing is she is being treated for Pneumonia(sp?), I was told by a Doctor at A&E that I have a viral throat infection and have to ride it out with pain killers even though the trip to A&E was because I got into breathing difficulty, BP was 156/106.

Take some rest Dave, might be good idea for a doctor checkup. I had a week ago those cold symptons and feeling very weak. Like you had a bit but less ..

I just took some vitamine C heavy dosis and some gember eh ginger? cooking, it got me fixed as usual.

Well, it's about 24 hours later and I feel pretty much OK now. Whatever it was, I appear to have fought it off. I must admit to being pretty relieved that it didn't get any worse. It was one truly off-the-wierdness-scale experience, though.

The thing is that, being a diabetic, you are pretty much a walking Petri dish for any nasty bug or virus that is doing the rounds. I had a flu jab last month and I think that might have had something to do with how I have recovered so quickly. My body must have recognised the virus due to the flu jab and sent my metabolism into overdrive to fight it off.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

I would love to see a Traveling Visible Virus ;)

probably a really mild case of man flu..
glad you feel better now:thumbsup:

Merlin,

Viruses can be pretty much taken care of by the immune system; shift the body temperature to a number that the virus replicates poorly at, ramp up production of specific and non-specific immunoglobulins (antibodies), and have the macrophages and neutrophils make munchies of them. This chills occur when large amounts of virus hit the blood stream (septicemia). Bacteria are more of an issue to diabetics as they do better in glucose rich tissues, and glycosylated proteins work less well than their non-glycosylated counterparts. Keep your HgA1C's less than 7 and you'll be set for winter.

I'm glad you came out of it so quick Dave! Lucky break I guess..

And many thanks for bdb for clearing it up, laugh at me, but I feel much more confident now facing the flu season, knowing I have macrophages and neutrophils. I imagine them like so many little Judge Dredds and Predators cruising around, looking for viruses just down on their luck..

Dude, that is exactly what they do! Shoot, Dave would have been out of action for 5 to 7 days without them cleaning his clock.

I hate using euphemisms for good solid descriptive expletives.

I seem to have it now, gives me a running nose like it's dripping water.
Fighting it with the big guns, so paracetamol.

When I am at work I always tell someone if they have a cold to go home.I tell them your not doing a world of good to us healthy people!.
We have all come accross this type of person they wont have time off work until it literally kills em !!
Glad your over the worst bud,,,,,now get your @ss in gear there are miggy`s awaiting your att !:)

BuzzFuzz, when you gotta get rid of something like a cold in your nose or a bug in your bowel, your body flushes it away (runny nose or diarrhea). Decreasing the fever actually prolongs the time the virus is active by a day or so. Best to blow your nose and go lay down.
