Just switched on an A1200, and up comes 3.0 Rom purple boot screen with the disc animation, usual stuff, however when I put a disc in, the floppy drive lights up, the boot screen turns purple then comes back to the original boot screen again, can anybody help please not had an A1200 before?

I meant, the disk you inserted is bootable?

What disk do you try to boot? A specific one, or many disks?

whats on the disk? or written on it?

EDIT: if you have the workbench disk put that in then the disk you want to see after and see if there is anything on it,a non bootable disk wont start automatically

yes I put the original workbench disk in and just comes back to the boot screen, floppy light comes on, sounds like its reading then comes back to boot screen?

if this is your first experience with an amiga, you might find the drive could be bad or the disks of they are bootable disks

if it comes back to kickstart it wont be reading the disk at all

going to have to open it up I think, just thought I might be doing something wrong, but it seems like it aint reading discs properly, Im going to open her up?

looks like will have to,dont know if you have a drive head cleaner?

or a cotton bud and ipa to clean the heads carefuly

but dont hold your hopes up,like i said it could be the disks,or the drive has some other problem

Do you have another Amiga? From your signature I guess so. Thus, pick a disk that you know it boots on your A500 and try it on the A1200.

definitely not the discs..

Could easily be a failed capacitor on the drive, have revived many a dead drive, if its a Panasonic drive you can usually see the offending cap by looking in the disk slot.

Since you have other Amigas, you can try an A500 drive in the 1200. Although it doesn't physically fit so you can close it, the electrical interface is the same so will tell you if it is the drive that is faulty (which is likely).
