@Merlin: Ok thanks! I always thought the A600 was a narrower ribbon! Just now had the pc keyboard adapters side by side to compare, and can verify they have the same width. :) Is it probable that the two computers have different keyboard controller circuitry? If not, then what's the use of companies selling adapters specifically for each one? hmmmm!

They have the same ribbon, but the leftmost contacts are swapped. You need to do a thought hack around the keyboard controller to make it work.

WOW! :wooha:
What an achievement James. :respect:

If Commodore had brought this out instead, they might still be here.

Ahhhh another late night insomniac..... it was getting lonely around here ;)

James, i was trying to understand what you did with the keyboard part. I mean, did you get to use a "chopped-down" A1200 keyboard and maintain the ribbon cable, or have you found a way to attach the A600 keyboard to the mobo? Awesome job, nevertheless!

i used the a600 keyboard .. but the a600 has one less pin on it and when you attach it it dont work the key lines are messed up the line asdfg becomes qwerty so i had to mod the keyboard chip on the a1200 board

thanks james

Quoted for truth 'teh Lulz'.

Could you please describe us exactly what you did to the keyboard chip ? Which pin you solder where ?

Barely... I own an a600 and just bought 2x a1200 broken mobos off evilbay, with an empty 1200 case. So I need a way to try the 1200s after repairing them.

Discovered this thread just now... AMAZING! When looking at the pics with the casing top flipped over, I thought "if you try to close this computer, you'll end up with a 1 inch gap at the seam"! I really wonder how all this pile of stuff inside can fit so close.

Very nice job!

Certainly extreme... but bloody brilliant. I like the final look: clean and tidy. Well done !

I suppose when you start such a project (i.e. cutting the 1200 mod), you obviously pass the point of no return :you HAVE TO make it work...

For the floppy replacement, why not an HxC Floppy Emulator ?

What is the slim CD (or DVD?) rom you have used ?
Did you add the IDE adapter ? Looks nice too...

Awesome work, a lot of rewiring there. Does the zorro wiring have any impact on the Blizzard performance?

By the way, i'm thinking about what could this mod have looked like using the ACA instead a full-lenght Blizzard board.

Would it have fit in the lateral? Maybe not by a centimeter or so. Maybe short enough to allow it to surpass the case. On the other hand fitting the ACA in the actual selected position above the floppy drive, it would allow more space into the case, and probably the CF wouldn't need to be set in the actual place.

However, AWESOME mod.
