After some PM exchanges with Dave (
deladrevoc), it appears that his switcher doesn't work onto his A500. His A500 is a Rev5 version.
The schematics that I just found onto the Net have confirmed that there is a difference of A17 signal's assignation between the KS ROM of a Rev5 and the KS ROM of a Rev6 A500 motherboard. Rev5's schematics are difficult to find, but the Rev3's ones are totally impossible to find.
Damned! In fact, the A17 signal is on Pin 1 of the Rev6's Kickstart socket ROM and on Pin Pin 31 of the Rev5's Kickstart socket.
Well, it's easy to make a mod onto the switcher. One track must be cut, a wire must be solder between Pin 1 of the socket KS2 and Pin 31 of the terminaison connector of the ribbon cable.
And another solution is to add a three positions jumper to allow the use of the switcher onto each revision of motherboard like the one onto the picture below:
Figure1
If you have a Rev3 or Rev5 motherboard, your switcher works fine with KS1.3, but it gives you only a white screen with KS3.1.
Dave is the first who has reported me this issue. I assume that there are some rev5 a500 in use, so, if you are in that case, please let me know. Rev 3 are quite rare now, but, if you own this board, the configuration is the same as for the rev5 board.
If you already have your switcher, two solutions. You make the mod with a wire if you think that you're able. Else, you can send it back to me.
For the switchers that are going to be send or assembled, by default the mod with the jumper will be added.
Figure2
To make the mod by yourself, the best way is to cut the track which goes onto Pin 1 of KS1 of the switcher PCB (bottom right Pin on
figure 1). Like that, Pin 1 of KS1 has no link with any other part of the circuit. So, a wire can be solder from Pin 31 (
figure 2) of the ribbon connector to the Pin 1 of KS1. With this simple mod, your switcher will work on your rev3 or rev5 A500, but only onto this revision.
Finally, the KS3.1 will have to be plugged onto KS1 socket and KS1.3 will have to be plugged onto KS2 socket of the switcher. (Please, note that you'll have also to invert the wires of the LED to keep the red light with KS1.3 & the green light with KS3.1!)
