Hi there. Haven't posted here for a while, but I'm not sure where else to ask, so sorry in advance.

I was given an A600 by a friend with the dreaded "caps lock on, no boot" issue. I recapped it and it now boots! I can get an image via RF, but it's not very good and my LCD TV is a pain for tuning in. I figured I'd connected it up via the SCART lead from my A4000 to test it out further, and this is where the problems start.

The A600 goes Dark Grey, Light Grey... and that's it. It stays on light grey, but I can hear the drive checking for a disk, and it'll even load if I put a disc in. Of course, I thought my recap was bad, so I've re-done all the solder joints... and have the same problem.

Next, I changed SCART port on the back of the TV... same problem. Out of curiosity, I plugged my A4000 back in. Now... THIS machine just gave me a black screen instead, except I can hear the drive checking for a disk and the HDD boot up workbench. So I know that machine is working (it also was a couple of days ago). Out of ideas, I dug out the very yellow, spare A500 I had and plugged that in via SCART. That does EXACTLY the same as the A600.

So... what I'm wondering is... do I now have a problem with my SCART lead, or are all 3 amiga's at fault? I'm currently searching the house for a spare composite cable to test out the A600 again, but I'd appreciate any input. :)

Your scart cable seems to have lost the Fast Blanking signal on pin 16 of the scart plug.

:)

Just to rule out the TV scarts, try plugging something else that uses scart, DVD player for eg.

Sorry I have not read it properly :)

You can borrow my spare RGB to SCART cable
or even a little TFT Screen to test the (Yellow) composite output.

Cheers. That would be super helpful :)

I also need to look for that composite cable I have. I -know- there's one in the house because I was using it on my laser disc player. I think the wife "tidied it up"

Found some RCA cables, so I hooked up the composite out to the 7" screen I have for my original XBOX and I've got a picture!

Downside is there seems to be a little ghosting, so I may need to check the caps again.

EDIT: Wait. Never mind. It was the screen angle. Changed that and it seems to be fine!

Composite from a retro computer to most modern TVs will have some ghosting, no matter how good the caps are. That's why people go to RGB.

Bryce.

I thought that might be the case. :)

Annoyingly it's decided to give me a black screen after I put it all back together, so I'm going to have to revisit the cap near the composite out.

Yep. I was right. Weak solder joint on the positive leg of the capacitor right behind the composite connector.

Up and running again. :)
