For now I'm just reading other peoples experiences. I'm still waiting for my AA3000+ to be built :) So I'm happy to ready you've had success with the ZZ9000.

Hi Trixter, my AA3000+ board should arrive soon, I'll have a similar setup to you. Which graphics card do you prefer? The Voodoo3 or the ZZ9000?

Darren

Hello mate :)

im quite enjoying using them both in there at the moment. Both can have Picasso96 settings configured and both monitor drivers can be run at the same time. I currently have the zz9000 set as the main card as I’m testing BNU’s DoomAttack, Quake and ScummVM zz9000 builds (plus I’m looking forward to fw 2.0 and more ARM software).

The voodoo kicks in when a game such as blitzquake requires warp3d. the voodoo will be necessary if PowerPC.library is ported to Prometheus in the future.

I use a vga switch to toggle between the two rtg boards, but conceivably you might be able to use the motherboard’s second rtg input to auto switch between PAL/RTG1/RTG2 if switchcontrol were to allow for that....? I don’t know if anyone’s tried that.

Sounds cool. I have a ZZ9000 on order - I'm batch 5 so I don't expect it until late this year. But my AA3000+ is in transit, I should get it in 1-2 weeks. I probably will put my Cyberstorm MK3 060 in it and maybe a Voodoo 3, although I only have one of those and I'd have to pull it from my A4000.

Do you know if a Voodoo 4 would also work? I have one of those too in my 2nd A4000. I could potentially use that also.

Thanks to Wrangler for the Video that´s shown how to build the switch cable. It works fine :-)

Yes his videos are great. I've ordered the parts to make my cable too, should get them soon. Thinking of doing my own youtube video once my AA3000+ arrives, just not sure I will have the time.

I'm getting ready to put my AA3000+ together. Does anyone know if the optional Romy feature allows you to use 27C400 EPROMs in addition to the larger 27C800s, or is that the reason it's listed as optional in the build notes?

So cool. Also makes the choice easier for my big box Amigas. A4k + ZZ9000, AA3k+ with Voodoo & PPC :) My AA3000+ is currently being brought to life as well, so looking forward.

Last week I finally started building my AA3000+. Progress looks good so far. Can anyone tell me if the AA starts up without the daughterboard?
Would like to do that for first tests...

Yes, it will boot fine without the DB.

Thank you, that helps a lot.
Meanwhile I got all the birdseed, 74 logic, and SOIC stuff in place and started soldering the sockets for the PLCC stuff.

I have to say, this board is a pleasure to solder. Everything is laid out so spacious with lots of room around hard-to-solder components (if you leave out all the throughhole stuff at first).
The silkscreen leaves no room for guesses, too.

Very well done in the best of Commodore's big box mainboard layout traditions. A while back, I populated a NOS A4000T board and thought it to be a very esthetically pleasing experience. But the AA3000+ tops that, at least in my opinion.

And yet another build question: Are all electrolytics for decoupling/audio, so the board could start DiagROM w/o them?

Thanks in advance!
