It took a bit of time but we finally managed to produce 1 prototype and 10 pre-series, see pictures below.
Please note the parts are in Spain and I'm in Australia so I don't have more shots of them at this stage.

So if the design is completed, the prototypes look fabulous, but some details in the production solutions needs to be improved for a larger order (we have ideas...).

On the area of the cool stuff, I also have had some packaging boxes and shipping boxes being made to fit... and they are pretty cool! ?

Being made in Europe, the boxes will soon ship to Spain as well to meet their contents. ?

Like all cool stuff for our hobbies, price-wise it's been a strong learning curve... Lot's of the money went into the first prototype and into the packaging - something to improve on the serial production... if I decide to launch a bigger batch, which really I'm not sure at this stage.

The result anyway is astounding; I will put a "sales"post up soon for the few pre-series models left after my friends pick the 2 or 3 they want for themselves.

I also have to decide where to sell from. Obviously shipping everything to Australia and then distributing back from there will increase costs but I can't ask the manufacturer to ship as I need to control the QA of the products. So it will be from France or from Germany. Stay tuned.

Later, I will put another post up for a pre-order of larger batch, to figure out if the interest is there beyond the few people who have replied in this thread (thanks to all). I probably won't launch another production run is the interest is below 40 pieces (I'm aiming at 50).

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your messages.
The project is alive but since December went into a crazy time… I’ve had the boxes custom made but the shipping between Switzerland and Spain is blocked somewhere - blame COVID!
Next time I’ll organise a taxi!
i still haven’t seen a part, then so you understand I can’t provide any first hand feedback, or even THINK about selling those first 10…
Never mind, it will happen.
The plan remain also to produce a larger batch (maybe 50), but I’ll make a special post for it. Also, we will introduce some little improvements ad I don’t like that each part is a prototype…
Soooooo… please be patient. This situation is unexplainable and lasts way too long to my taste but it will happen. Out of the 10 prototypes, I’ll keep perhaps 4 but all the others will be offered for sale, probably in the order of expressed interest.
Apologies for not replying to all of you in person, and thank you for your great messages!

Very impressed, great work.
Interested, please count me in.

Hi Guys,
Unfortunately, not so good news ahead - this project is in stand-by since COVID might have well killed it...
Long story short, 12 prototypes (pre-series) have been manufactured long time ago in Spain and have been waiting for very loooooong time for their boxes, custom made and custom printed in a nearby country.
Those boxes cost me some significant $$ and got lost by the courier company who had only 2 borders to cross.
After many months of wait I've been told that a new batch of boxes would be made and would have shipped but I never had the tracking details or any confirmation of any kind.
From the Spanish side, of course, nothing arrived.
So...... my decision is to ship all 12 parts to Australia, without boxes, and to sell them only locally, or to give them away to friends.
The tool we made with real A1000 parts for assembly of future covers will be returned to the owner of the borrowed parts and the project will end here.
Thank you for all the kind messages you sent me - I wished I could make this happen but I lost patience and interest.

EDIT **** This post is replaced by the one below.
I gave another chance to the boxes manufacturer since June 2022, but my patience got to its limit one more time...

Hello,
Some news about the project.... not so good.
The project has turned short since the solution for nice boxes couldn't be finalized with the supplier we chose.
I have paid for 12 boxes, they have never arrived.
We have waited and waited and waited for a replacement solution... couldn't find one.
Now I totally lost patience, therefore I'm shutting off the project.
All produced prototypes (about 12) will be sold, minus few we're going to keep for us (maybe 2 or 3), for about 100 EUR plus shipping (from Germany), pending successful inspection which should occur within 2 weeks, after we received all parts. We finally decided to keep the parts in Europe, to make dispatch easier.
I will keep people posted and will open a specific thread for the sale.
EVERYONE who have raised interest in that project, in the thread here or by direct PM, will be listed in the sales thread and will have *ONE* cover reserved for sale, for 1 month.
I will also post the link to the sales thread in this thread here.
Thank you all.

Hi Guys,

I've been working on an acrylic top cover for Amiga 1000 to replace the existing top cover.

We already have a prototype (see pictures), but we are going to amend the design to ease manufacturing (reduce costs) and also we will be designing a packaging so we can ship worldwide.

I'm in Australia but we are working from Europe, which explains why it takes a bit more time than I thoughts - also I want to deliver a product with great quality!

I'm originally doing this for me and for a couple of friends, for our GBA1000 which have all whistles and bells (TK060 @ 100 MHz, Picasso II, USB...), but if there are enough interest I will be considering a group sale.

Let me know your thoughts... and your interest!

01. Where the idea came from ?
From this picture taken during the 30 years Amiga Anniversary event in USA...

02. First 3D design attempts on Google Sketchup:
I wanted the cover to be fully functional, especially capable to hold a modern LCD monitor, so I added the retaining posts, and some stiffeners.

03. First prototype manufactured after I sent few original Amiga 1000 parts:
Still few adjustments to be made but the first trial is not too bad...

Edit -- We are now looking at simplifying the design in order to make the manufacturing easier, more repeatable, and increase the final visual quality of the product.

Another concern is risks of damages during shipment, so I'm working with a famous company to offer a great packaging solution, without too much jeopardizing the final cost of the project.

More details to come.
Hello, I need a 3D model of the Amiga 1000's front panel. The previous owner cut it out around the floppy drive. I want to have it 3D printed. Could someone please send me the 3D model? I would be very grateful.
