Adblock = piracy

I actually completely agree with the guy. Obviously some websites can rely on donations, paid content or just plain goodwill and spare time/money of its founders, but others do rely on advertising. And especially with the Google ads which are always rather discreet, but also with banner ads in general, all you're doing by blocking them is hurting your favourite websites financially. I mean, if an advert is overly intrusive, physically hides page content due to poor coding (and can't be removed), or slows down my computer I'll probably block it - but that doesn't apply to many ads at all. I can even tolerate ones at the beginning of videos as you can usually skip them.

Considering the number of trojans that are supplied via ad providers, it's actually much safer to run ad blocking software...

Ads are a means of revenue, to be sure, but a percentage of "people not viewing the ads" is always built into the business model.

When a TV show has ads, they know most people aren't watching the ads.
They get up and leave. They skip them, etc...

It's not piracy, it's just part of the formula...

"Smart business people" know that; and they never insult their potential customesr by calling them pirates.. ;-)

its a simple matter of you tell the person you want to pay you money that you get 1000 people a day visiting your site and you will give them a banner advert on your page for £1000 a month.
If you go the pay per click option of advertizing your just a bit simple really..

the only way pay per click ads work is if you force people to click on the adverts to continue to the contents and without doing so the content is inaccessable. this is usualy done to downloads rather than a page its self.

So if you chose pay per click thats your fault. Not only are you a bit dumb because obviously next to no one actualy clicks on adverts these days due to 1/2 of them either infecting you with a virus or bombarding your email because you filled out the form they asked you to.
but so many of them get blocked as a default.
i have some ad servers blocked via my router fire wall. I dont like them hiding on a web page collecting info on who visits where.

So yeah basically if your web page has enough visitors to warant having adverts on there to pay for it. then charge a set fee fopr the month rather than views/clicks. if you dont get enough visitors to be able to negotiate that kind of advertizing deal then no matter what adverts you use "pay per click excetera" will never pay for the site either. so why bother.

If you rely on a website to make you money, you are defiantly going to be disappointed. I have had websites in one form or another for 15 years now, and I have never:
relied on them to make any money.
Charged for access
or relied on "Donations"
simple fact is that 99% of all web surfers will not click on banner or such.
My website (The Amiga Lounge) was started about 5 years back. I think maybe 1 person has donated any money or clicked on the "donate" button.
I never intended for the website ever to make me money, nor was I foolish enough to think I could ditch my day job and just sit back and live off the net.
I did try google's ad sense. but it never made me a penny.

What I really get a kick is how some people have these file sharing sites for TV shows and movies. Obviously, they are smart enough no to host the TV shows or movies, but every free Millimeter around the TV show player is banner ads.
They really have no content, and are just ad hosting sites

That reminds me of the old story about the sewerage farm being in the position to compile accurate tv viewing stats.

When the ads come on most viewers get up to go take a dump or whatever. The sewerage workers notice a large spike of incoming waste and from that they could work out what people were most watching.

Hmm, I think that's something we can all take home today.

TL DR Version: Ads on tv equal sudden, high volume, influx of sh**.
