When you format them you can rename them, but if you change them in the HDtoolbox, bad things can happen.

I discovered by trial and error it likes to name things like davideo said. Seagate drives are usually start with an "S", but I did try an old Seagate drive (with Commodore stamp). It wanted just to put "HD0", "HD1", ...

I managed to get the machine up with a 36 Gig SCSI (Seagate Cheeta). It is attached directly to Warp Engine. I have the cable running under the metal bridge. When I get the bracket, I will be able to connect the external CDROM using that. For now I am using an A2091

I had a quick question. The system won't come up unless there is a CD in the CDROM drive.

I was able to get rid of the dependency on the EMERGENCY-CDROM by moving it out of the Devs/DosDrivers, but the system still wants something in the drive, or it won't boot.

Any suggestions on which "extras" are the most useful?

Pardon my partially offtopic but what happend when you "disobeyed" it's orders? Because i have some sudden freezes on my a1200@030 since my last repartitioning with FFS.

P.s. my hdd always was/is a cf adapter with a 4gb sandisk cut in 3, 250~ mb being the workbench partition.

@Status, you can call the partitions whatever you like, you can call them Tom, Dick and Harry if you want :D

I think your freezing is probably unrelated, maybe somethings getting hot or not connected properlly or even a weak PSU.

For instance my 4000D has the following

IDH0 to IDH2 on warpdrive.device 6 (SCSI)
SDH0 on scsi.device 1 (IDE CARD)
MDH0 to MDH5 on scsi.device 0 (IDE HDs)

Yes that's right a total of 10 HD :D :D :D

Just to remove any confusion or to add to it :D

The above names are from asking information on the HDs. They do all have logical names such as : Games, Games2, Workbench, Programs, Spare, Data, etc.

Heck, you can name your partitions the way you like!

Call one Samantha, other Daisy, another Ron_Jeremy, as you want! Just use less than 20 characters and don't use invalid ones, like "/" or "!", nor spaces (avoid spaces in partitions names, some programs will have a pink fit with they).

Ron Jeremy! - PMSL!!

My low level boot partition's name is Alexis_Texas...

Seriously, nothing bad will happen when you change the low level name, all that can make a fuss is a wrong mask (over 0xfffffe when true FAST RAM is not available at boot time, or over 0xfffffc when no Zorro-2 RAM is available) and max_transfer over 0x1fe00 for compact flash cards and slow hard disks.

For confirmation, you can ask for Thomas Raupp on Amiga.org or EAB.

Put the CD0 icon away from DEVS/DOSDRIVERS and activate it only when need.

There was no CD0 icon under devs/dosdrivers. The emergency-cdrom works for mounting things. I can just double click on it and it will mount the cdrom (I moved it out from dev/dosdrivers to the disk (to bad I haven't figure a way to put it on the workbench).

The A2091 had a quirk. If the CDROM drive was turned on but no CD was inside, it would wait until I put on in before allowing the machine to boot. If it was turned off then no problems.

I did switch over to the Warp Engine SCSI for my CDROM and removed the A2091 (I got the bracket in yesterday). That (the CDROM needing a CD in it) problem went away.

I have not upgraded to boingbag1 or 2, I'll be doing that next. Now I have a way to get things onto my machine (burn a CD).

Anyone get the Deneb USB adapter to work? I installed it, but when I open the control panel, it complains about not having "muimaster.library".

The A2901 will not boot with a CD-ROM unit on the chain without a CD inside it.

Does not need to be a data CD: a music one will do the trick.

Also, the "second" place where the mount command look is always Storage/DosDrivers, so there is the place to move unused icons.

I would suggest that you start your own thread on the subject rather than mix in with this one.
