hello there,

lets kick this discussion off with a what do you want thread of discussion

things like what features you want to see implemented or improved, suggestions, code of practice for members and the community. in fact anything you can think of that YOU feel might been need or just a nice touch shout it out here.

AmiBay is looking for more developers versed in web-technologies such as DHTML/PHP/Perl and PHPBB forums.

so if you want to join the AmiBay Dev team post away.

I'd like a quite simple front page - not one with 48 different forum headings, &c. as seen on some sites.

I'd also like a "links" region of some sort - maybe a panel down one side or across the top/bottom, or a sub-forum (I don't know which software this board is using, so I don't know if a sub-forum is possible) - which could hold a selection of regular addresses, such as amiga-related sites. This might help keep ebay cross-postings off the board, as a single link to a.org's marketplace should fulfil all desires for ebay linkages. :D

Oh, and not too many gross-out smilies. :)

Edit: e.g. the first group has three forum headings already, does Rules & FAQ deserve a forum - or a stickied couple of threads, or just some links (FAQ already has one at the top of the page).

@meega

Some good ideas there, the AmiBay alpha engine (what this is) is running phpbb forum system.

the point of this is proof of concept and to find out what the community wants. and so far from EAB / A.Org etc we see that people want a multiple cross linked classified system.

I like the multi cross linked idea to be honest, AmiBay isn't designed to be a take over of established community forums just a place for the community to trade freely.

I so agree with you on the smiley... they absolutely do my head in... i prefer text smileys but i doubt i will have it my way LOL

yeah... the Rules / FAQ, well i certainly see your point, and i think you are right it might be best inside a thread, at the moment i just see it as a repository for the use of AmiBay as opposed to the technical use of the fourm (which the link at the top of the page takes you)...

I appreciate your thoughts meega :) keep 'em comming :D

I like what we've got so far and the new rules 'n' regs read fine to me. We just need to get the theme/skin working now and (as I'm discussing with Merl at the mo) the main boing ball logo may have copyright issues?

welll it seems to work okay for Amiga.org and Hyperion.. lol

worse case scenario we are not making any money, its just a community site. we could always ask with an attached graphic.

arguably, its totaly different form their *registered* trademarks...

personally the Amiga has always been about the "tick" as opposed to the "boing ball" i just threw somthing together in the 10 mins it took to upload the alpha engine :)

Looks like my post died with the encount ,, Hope it is stable now .. Now for the real question when will this site be ready for real advertizement ? :D

@Adonay

Very VERY soon i hope!!!!

I can't remember who posted this (meega I think), but we could do with some moderators from different time zones to spread the moderator coverage of the site, so we eventually end up with 24/7 cover.

Strangely, my sig doesn't seem to show up in the ad I posted. Is it limited to particular forums (fora?!?), or perhaps only shows up in replies? Perhaps there is just a delay since my account is newly created.
The "always show sig" radio button is active in my profile...

EDIT: Shows up in this forum ok. Weird...

i like the site, and good idea to fill the void amibench left.

i have some suggestions..

add a location option to posts (and make it searchable)
this might make searching more easy for ppl who want to see
whats available closest to them ?

and a very light frontpage ? compatible with all browsers

Aweb,IE,Voyager,FF,Ibrwose etc :)

Hello Craven1200, welcome to the forum.

You can show your location in your profile, if you wish, as well as in your listings. In any case, if someone is willing to post national/abroad/worldwide, then where you or they are does not seem, to me, to be quite so material - although I agree that it could make a difference to some to know where in the world an item is coming from.

Is the Index page not light enough? I quite like it, myself, I think the admins have done a very good job.

Thank you for your comments. As the site is still being developed, I'm sure the admins will be implementing some new features. :)

New (Temp) Logo

New (Temp) Logo

@All as you can see the new logo is up (thanks Zetro :))

I hope you all like it however it is only a temporary logo as we are planning a logo contest sometime down the line. I was thinking maybe 1st month / 3 months or maybe even 6 months we run the logo comp. It's open to debate and i (we) look forward to your ideas regarding the logo / compo.

@meega not sure at what you was getting at about the logo in OSUK forum but i think i should answer it in here, anyway incase you hadn't guessed it the Y is multicolour to simulate the tick from workbench 3.0 screen etc it is still the same font just i cut 1/3rd of it to make the second part of the tick as were!

should we require any edits to the logo i have the original true colour version and can make any changes to it's size etc (for any other material) we might require (cups/mugs/tshirts & mouse mats here we come ;))
