Hello,
My Amiga 3000 came with 8MB of Static Column Mode FastRAM. It is a mix of “OKI M514402-80Z, 80ns” and “OKI M514402-70Z, 70ns” ZIP Chips, all of type “1Mx4-bit” (512K), Static Column Mode RAM.
The only difference is the speed in NanoSeconds. The mix has no influence on the stability of the machine. The speed-comparison in SysInfo is "1.00 compared to a standard 25Mhz A3000" (my A3000 is stock).
I wanted 16MB and found someone who sold me 16MB worth of identical chips. I preferred this over adding 8MB to the existing 8MB. Therefore, I have these chips left over and have no purpose for them anymore.
I stress-tested the memory. Not only with the usual tools but also tested the ZIP's with an tool called "Ziptest" http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/ZIPTest
This tool, ziptest, only works on the A3000 and tests the ZIP chips by bypassing the OS and going directly into the hardware. It will show a text-graphical presentation of all the RAM banks, their ID's and if the chips are good or not. It also does a thorough low-level test. Please see the description on AmiNet. It's a really good tool.
All 16 chips are perfectly fine. I then removed them veeeery carefully (ESD counter-measures taken). There are no broken or bent pins. I cleaned the chips so no schmutz, corrosion or crusty legs.
The first picture is of the DIMM's still in the machine.
I'll ship the Zippies in those plastic "ruler" type holders (see last photo). I'll make sure they can't move and pack them really well.
