Hi
I'm Chris. I grew up playing the Amstrad CPC 464 in the late 80s and early 90s.

I really enjoyed programming, and experimented with AmigaE and wrote the textviewer EvenMore (hence the username).

I had an Amiga 500, then 1200 around '93, then an Amiga 3000 which I got converted into a tower with CD Rom. After I moved to PC, I started to use WinUAE and the famous Amithlon!

These days I use Linux as my main OS, and have gone back to working on the Amstrad.
I had a 464+ back in the day, just after it flopped.

I do a bit of assembly programming and recently released a Plus version of Harrier Attack, and am still working on my own homebrew game called Mimo's Quest.

Welcome

Wasn’t a fan of the cpc back in the day not a fault of the cpc ( was into asm a VERY long time ago on c64/amiga) but a fault of lazy programmers just porting spectrum games over not using the cpc’s advantages. Software/games that used the cpc’s hardware where quite surprising in what is capability actually was.

I’ve got a boxed cpc464 with matching colour monitor that time/space permitting needs tlc

🙂

Thanks :)

Yes, a lot of those programmers had strict deadlines to meet, so a lot of games ended up being quick Spectrum ports! Frustrating as a kid! I was gutted when I got back home to play Back To The Future II ;D

The CPC is a great machine, I also have a CPC 464, still working very well! The chunky pixels and bright colour palette can look well with a bit of work.

welcome to the forum, Amstrad CPC have great keyboard and it is shame that zx speccy port games on cpc as just imaging what would be like if programmer wasnt lazy or have more time to do them then we would seeing somethings like you see Pinball Dreams CPC game that look really amazing and play well too!

Hey Chris! I also grew up with a 464 (Plus), and I still have it in the attic with its tapes. I don't know if it stills works though, I'm bit afraid to switch it on...

Hi Andrew

That's cool. Be careful if you use a CRT monitor. I switched on my CTM 644 after 20 or more years and it blew up after 5 seconds! So frustrating. I think they need recapped and cleaned first before use.

I also bought another 464+, as I damaged my original one by using an incorrect power supply! So do be careful if you do decide to try it out! :)
