Hi peeps,

I was wondering, what's the best Amiga emulator for Linux.

The machine in question is running Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS and has all the updates possible applied to it.

If Linux-based Amgia emulators are bad, would WinUAE work under Wine?

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers
Duncan

Not doing it myself, but I knew several people who ran WinUAE under WINE and said it worked great...

I use uae (apt-get install uae), has hardfile support.
Currently running linux mint 10 (ubuntu 10.10).
Going to reinstall my main pc later with debian squeeze and uae.well if I get round to it!

The only benefit to running WINUAE under WINE, as far as I'm concerned, is that it gives you the ability to set up CF drives for your real Amigas. No other UAE afaik has that capability right now.

You can mount the amiga file system on linux like any other file system. So you can setup CF cards and HDD's. If you need info, check over on EAB for details, you just need to make sure it is in the kernel. If not just add it.

Dude, that's awesome! Using winuae is a huge PITA. I have to dual-boot into windows, which I can't stand. It's actually my sole reason for using Windows at all.

Though, are you talking about UAE, or PUAE? And any chance you can point me to a thread? If not, I'll just search like I'm supposed to..lol

It's possible both with UAE and E-UAE (maybe PUAE too, not tried that) - you just can't set it up through the user-interface, it involves editing a configuration file. (The user-interface can set up filesytem-level directory sharing, but not raw device access.)

(You also need read/write permissions on the raw device in question, which is a pain. The only thing you can't do is read the drive's geometry information from within HDToolbox.)

Edit: This might help - https://www.amibay.com/showpost.php?p=200200&postcount=22

Just make sure you get the device node right, otherwise you risk giving your PC's boot drive an RDB partition table and AmigaOS install!
