Connected the drive (data and power cables) to DF1: port of A1200 with Kickstart 3.1 and Workbench 3.1, however, I could not make it work as HD drive.

If the jumper is in the position 1, it works well as DD drive, i.e., it can read, write and format DD floppies, both Amiga and MS-DOS format (through PC1: dosdriver in Amiga Workbench 3.1). However, it cannot read, write or format HD floppies. HD floppy formatted in MS-DOS as 1.44 is not read (showing both DF1: and PC1: as ????, unknown format). If I try to format the HD floppy in Amiga FFS format, it offers just the DD capacity 880 kB.

If I try to move the jumper to any of the other two positions labeled as 2 and 3, the drive doesn't work at all.

Any hints what could be the problem and how to solve it?
Now I tested the drive connected to DF0: port, it still behaves the same - not working with HD floppies.

How did you connect the drive to the external port of 1200?
I have towerized Amiga 1200. I already had a standard internal Amiga DD floppy drive connected to DF1: port through a cable with reduction to standard internal connector. The power cables to the FD drive go directly from PSU through a standard connector.

So I just swapped my DD drive with your HD drive. After no success as HD, I tried to connect it instead my old DF0: drive, but the result was the same.

First of all this is not my drive.
Still can't understand your setup.
How do you have a floppy drive at DF1 without having something at DF0?
Can you provide some photos of your connection to the external port of 1200 and the HD drive adapter jumpers?

If you connect it to df0 and it is the only drive connected, is it working as DD? Jumper should be placed in number 1 for df0.

Indeed, when I tested the HD drive on DF1: port, my, "normal" DD drive was connected at DF0:

In summary, my original setup was two internal DD floppy drives as DF0: and DF1:

What I tried to do, was to replace just one of my two original floppy drives with the HD one. Unfortunately, it did not work in DF1: position, so I tried it later in DF0: position just to make sure, but did not succeed either. The other floppy drive connected in my amiga was always one of my original DD ones.

Is that clearer now?

I just wonder, could it be that the HD floppy setup is sensitive to even small inacuracy in the power supply voltage?

I tried to connect a HD drive as DF1 and then found out that I had to do some modifications to the adapter attached. I don't know why but the drive stopped working as HD 🙄
I hope you are not in that situation..
Disassemble the bottom of the drive and take a picture of the pcb.
If you are lucky a wire is disconnected.

Yes they are a lot!
But what do you mean? What did you do maybe wrong?
I believe I did nothing wrong. Just to mention that I have an old power supply in an old computer :-) Never had any problem with that power supply though, even if I connected different turbocards, Indivision AGA or anything else.

Well, then it seems like a reproducible problem. I also started with connecting it as DF1: and never made it work as HD then. If I knew that, I would have started with DF0: first...

I will check the drive PCB.

Photo of the drive PCB. The tiny wires are soldered on both ends. I just wonder, as they are not insulated and lie in contact with the PCB, couldn't they make an undesired electrical contact on their way?

They are 0.25mm wires used in coils and are insulated enough ☺️
Sorry i have to go now.
Board seems ok.

Edit: The r21 resistor have not been changed. Maybe that helps.

Well, then I suggest that I send the drive back to the seller he will make it work as HD drive or refund. (Sorry for confusing @livewindarefail with the seller @AmigaDigital).

Yes, that was the way how I connected the drive data cable to DF1: port. However, the power was taken directly from the PSU connectors in my tower.

This is how my drive stopped working, so don't know if this is your fault or drive's fault. Difficult decision..

how you connect it to df1: , can you make a picture of it , i think you mis something , the drive are test befour i ship it , normale if you use the drive as df1: you need a pcb like the other amiga drive that connect on the extren disk drive port , when you use ( like the 2000/3000/4000 ) a intren cable for df0 and df1 , then you need twist the last connector on the cable for df1
