Amiga Roms / EPROM?

A lesson learned me thinks... I bough this from a guy that lives in Edinburgh but for some reason posts his gear from Zielonki (yes, Poland)... He claimed it to be a 3.1 rom for an A6000 and I have no doubt it is... The thing is it hasn't got Commodore or Amiga or even a C= on it...

I'm guessing I've been kippered on this one and this is actually some kind of EPROM chip (or something technical that I don't really understand) that's got a 3.1 rom shoved in it by a dodgy seller?

Also I'm guessing it's wise to avoid any roms that have stickers on them, this one did!

Can anyone confirm my suspisions for me to prove I'm not just being paranoid...

Yes, that's an eprom (a chip you can erase/write with whatever data you want) and yes, it's not a legit kickstart chip but a copy of one.

do you mean A600? what did the sticker look like?
you know amigakit use eproms.although they have a licence for these.


also...all the 3.1 kickstart for the 500,500+,2000,600,legit or not use eproms with stickers on them...the sticker is to stop it being erased by sunlight(uv light)thats how they are erased for re-use.


the ones you are used to seeing are mask roms,they are programmed once and cant be re-used...like 1.2 on the 500 to 3.1 on the 1200 etc with no window.

but mask roms are not to be confused with eeproms,which are erased electrically.

It won't hurt your miggy also put another sticker on it or it will be wiped

i should of said,to say there isent any legit kickstarts using eproms about would not be true.

if i said it wasent legit and not seen the sticker first,how would i/anyone know? apart from a sticker thats hand written or something...
if companys had license to duplicate the kickstart wouldnt there be lots of these about? not just amigakits.

the only thing for sure is,if it had a sticker that was hand written it wont be legit.(even then its not 100%)
sure a printed sticker might not be legit...but even commodore used printed stickers on roms sometimes.

for instance,how many places could you get a licensed kickstart back in day?.i know there was lots of places.

These statements combined , along with the fact that amigakit's kickstarts do have copyright messages and a serial on their label makes it obvious that the OP doesn't have an amigakit KS, hence my reply that he has a copy ks.

BTW, anyone knows if there is anyone else nowdays selling legit kickstarts on eproms? (I doubt it)

The sad thing is, if Commodore had not been managed so badly back in the day, and the rights passed through so many hands afterwards, Kickstart by now would probably be freeware.

But still, it's well worth the money thanks to all the updates, and, erm...

fair enough,i did not read all of the first post properly... i was looking at the picture.mostly(not enough coffee as of yet bud), and there is no label to look at...my bad.
im not here to argue with people.even if it seems that way.

first post didnt say how old or new the kickstart was,they can be pretty old before there sold on anywhere bud,they are sold from time to time on amibay.
does it matter where there sold from? im sure you have some and sold some on.


it was just ,the point was if any,is that there was and is kickstarts with stickers on and there are kickstarts on eproms.

I also made a dubious comment about eproms not being legit when they are cases like amigakit where they are perfectly fine.
Back in the day, at least here , you could go to a computer shop and get new kickstarts. 60% of them were just copies, even if sold by authorized dealers - they just copied it anyways to get a bigger cut... people back then didn't know (or care) about that , they just wanted a new kickstart and that's all. It seemed legit enough
Maybe the same happened to op's chip, it doesn't necessarily mean that the seller deceived him. I'd just follow johnim's advice at this point

please accept my apologies,i was not insinuating you wanted to argue...

besides it was early in the morning,...and..well,i dont think straight without alot of caffeine to wake me up.and it dont really matter in the whole sum of it all mate anyway.

the way i was feeling this morning,i could just about understand the picture that was posted,let alone the written word

So from what I read here the only truly legit 3.1KS ROMs for a 600 will all be EPROMS but only available from Amigakit!!
