Hi Guys,

Hope I can get a little help here.

I have an A1200 (which I adore totally) and have an Amitek Hawk expansion board.

The strange thing happens when i try to use WHDLoad - here is my process

1. Hold left-button on boot to get 'prompt' so I can guide the Amiga to the games.
Once I am in the correct folder etc, I correctly type 'whdload cannonfodder.slave' for example and press return.

WITHOUT the Hawk installed, i get the WHDLoad splash screen and the machine boots and starts the game.
WITH the Hawk installed, I get the flashing red border 'Software Failure' error.

In Workbench, the system shows the fast memory as 8mb (maximum that the Hawk can take) with 2mb System Memory.

Am I doing something unbelievably idiotic here? Also, if I startup in WB and guide myself into the game folder in question - and incidentally I only use the games I still have in the loft so I only have a few - i double-click the large game icon - Cannonfodder again was tried - I get a yelloe flashing border 'recoverable error'

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you guys.

I'd run a ram checker.
1: It's possible to set the hawk to 8mb with a memory stick of any size, so make sure the module is actually 8mb.
2: My hawk (and some others, search EAB if you like) have trouble using 8mb at all. It might be depending on some chip revision.

It might be that you need to jumper it off for 4mb as above I have heard many users having issues with this board and 8mb Ram.

Cheers guys,

Problem is that only 2 of the 3 jumpers state 4meg. LK3 only says 2mg and 8mg so do i put that jumper on as 2mg?

Cheers. for some reason i have a completely different pdf??!

As it stands, I have re-jumpered to 4meg and the machine is purring along wonderfully!

thanks to all!

I've run the Sys-Info application:

With the board installed its apparently running at twice the stock speed.

I am just waiting for my 40mhz FPU as I already have the crystal; what sort of boost will the FPU and crystal give me, roughly?

Glad to hear you have it working, you could try some other 8mb sticks in the future but you might never get 8mb working properly. Faster FPU will only be apparent in software that uses it such as image decoding Ray tracing, that sort of thing. Normal operation will be the same :)

Pretty much nothing. Almost no software uses the FPU. Certainly not the standard AmigaOS or 99% of games.

It could be a problem with the maxtransfer value. Could you try to set the Maxtransfer value at 0x01fe00 with HDToolbox and try if it helps.

I had it with serveral memory expansions and Accelerator cards.
