Any Star Trek fans here?

Farscape started off great, but at some point in the second season it went completely off the rails. It was like watching a different show with a different tone all of a sudden. Couldn't watch it after that. Firefly is still one of my favourites - I too, saw Serenity first and then got the series, but I love the series far more than the film. They went a little too far with the different use of English and it sounded awkward. I got to meet some of the cast members at a convention in London a few years ago, still have a photograph of myself standing next to Jewel Staite :)
 
I have some vague memories of watching my dad watch TNG, but the first time I really watched Star Trek was Voyager.

Really liked it so I watched TNG and DS9. TNG turned out to be my favourite by far. DS9 was good, but enjoyed it less the second time I watched it - as with Voyager.
 
Here is a really off-topic tidbit. My Cousin Craig (VanDenBiggelaar) (google him) did all the (COOL) SGI for "Stargate". He was even nominated for numerous awards for it. Anytime you see a Space battle in any of the Stargate shows, that was Craig! The last time a saw him at Christmas a few years back, he had a cool Stargate cast jacket, they gave him when he co-wrote an episode of SG1 and did "Thor" completely out of SGI instead of the pupet the first had.

Thats awesome, I loved SG1 the most out of the Stargate series'. He did some awesome work.
 
Envisions ships from B5 lining up as half of Starfleet drop out of warp opposite... :lol:
 
It's so one sided but I was rooting for the B5 fleet the whole way. Go EarthForce! :D
 
Babylon 5 was my favourite long running scifi series.

But Voyager has great long running threads (spanning 10's of episodes but each one watchable in their own right) in line with what was started in DS9 plus loads of link backs to DS9 and TNG episodes.

You'll enjoy Voyager much more than Enterprise me thinks.
 
Star Trek : Enterprise

Awesome with exception to season 3 (with the Xindi) which was utter scrotum!


Star Trek : Original Series

I love all three of these series, although I still wince when I watch "Plato's step children"... ohhh some bad acting there!


Star Trek : The Next Generation

Season one was utter pants!... oh my some really ass nasty acting there.... but the rest is truly sublime, love the show.

Star Trek : Deep Space 9

This is the one I like the least of all the Star Treks series - I felt it was pretty much hashed together in the begining to compete with B5 (we will get to that in a bit), The stories are just a tad to.... well been-done-before and with exception to avery brooks, and nana visitor, the rest are a little weak... that is until season 3 where we see some far better rounded characters and a lot more from the supporting actors colm meany and Alexander Sidig - I felt that they ruined Terry Farrels character and I wont even mention the lameness with her replacements.

All in all, I felt that Avery Brooks carried that show, and for nearly 7 seasons as well.. it wasn't until season 4 that DS9 got interesting.


Star Trek : Voyager

Yes, well season 1 was pretty pants but it picked up, some very good moral dilemma's expressed in the show and I will have to say I enjoyed for the most part, theres a couple of multi-parters that should never of been made as they result into nothing (time ship i am looking at you!)

character development kinda stiffled for some of the crew, which was a let down, while I enjoyed Seven they could of done more, Chakotay could of used a lot more work, and a lot more play-against the captain. Sadly though Voyager suffered from samey stories - with samey outcomes.


Babylon 5 :
Did Deep Space Nine rip off Babylon 5?

Ultimately this will never be known. Straczynski himself, and many Babylon 5 fans believe that Deep Space Nine plagiarized several story elements from Babylon 5. While Deep Space Nine premiered shortly before B5, the latter had been in pre-production for years and the B5 television movie was finished before Deep Space Nine began filming.

Straczynski maintains that Paramount, the studio which produced Deep Space Nine was aware of Babylon 5 as early as 1989. He claims that when he was shopping B5 around to various studios he gave Paramount a series bible as well as plot breakdowns for the first season of the show and other background materials. He maintains that Paramount used these materials to help create Deep Space Nine. Straczynski says that he declined to sue in order to put the past behind them and allow both shows to go forward without the taint of a legal sturggle.

Now, I really enjoyed B5 it had an amazing story arc that really enthrawled and was completely unlike any other show - sadly with its long standing I felt the last series was a little lack-luster, although after freeing Earth and Mars from tyranny creating a federation, defeating the ancient enemy (the shadows) and telling the Vorlons to GTFO! what else can they do other than do a hand-over show.

I was enjoying the Excalibur spin off - shame that was cut, Galen the techno-mage was my favourite!

heres some more hot-topical - did paramount rip-off B5

Babylon 5 involves a space station beside an artificial hyperspace jumpgate. Deep Space Nine involves a space station beside a naturally occurring wormhole. -Both shows had human captains who would end up becoming figures of religious significance to a local race. Benjamin Sisko would become the Bajoran Emissary while Gordon Sinclair becomes the religious leader of the Membari -Both shows involved humans working alongside a recent enemy race: the Minbari in Babylon 5 and the Klingon's in Deep Space Nine (although the friendly nature of the Klingons was established in Star Trek: The Next Generation). -Both shows would introduce a small, powerful, first of its kind warship at similar points in their third season: The Defiant on Deep Space Nine and the White Star on Babylon 5. -Both shows featured female seconds in command who were hot tempered: Kira Nerys on Deep Space Nine and Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5. -Both shows featured doctors who had strained relations with their fathers and who were hiding secrets: Julian Bashir's genetic modification on Deep Space Nine and Stephen Franklin's involvement with the underground and his stim addiction on Babylon 5. -Both shows involved combat against mysterious foes who seemed much more powerful than the protagonists: The Dominion on Deep Space Nine and the Shadows on Babylon 5. -In addition there are several names which appear in both shows such as Lyta/Leeta and Dukhat/Dukat.. - Both male leads have romantic relationships with women,who own their own ships and are in private business for themselves.

I'm a die hard DS9 fan and watched it as it was originally aired in the UK but I didn't see B5 until a few months ago (yes it was awesome). However it is clear that Paramount completely stole all of B5's ideas for the setting etc. I'm just happy B5 still got made so I had two shows to enjoy but only someone in denial would say DS9 wasn't a complete copy of B5.
 
Anyone have watched the last Star Trek Into Darkness by JJ. Abrams?

Like the previous one, it's fine.
It is Star Trek enough to please the hardcore fan like me, and good sci-fi adventure enough to please everyone else.
Actually, it is a bit of a remake of
Star Trek II
and it lacks some real surprises in my opinion, but i give it a 8/10 at least.

I watched while on holiday when I was 10yrs or so Star trek the motion picture on a 14" colour TV on ITV on a narrow boat on the Norfolk broads. Loved it.

but my favourite Sci-Fi has to be Stargate SG1 and then Atlantis. Universe was pants.

I voted for The Original Series, as the Movies are technically sequels, not truly a series.
