I love Star Trek... although not quite as much as Star Wars!

Watched every episode of every series as they were broadcast over the years. Bought Sky originally so I could watch TNG as it was first aired in the UK.

DS9 has always been my favourite of the series. Loved the characters.. Judzia was brilliant, and once Sisko became Captain and shaved his hair off his character took on a much darker side that was great. Odo and the whole shape shifter race was a little annoying, but the Dominion were great.. especially Weyoun. Garak also had a great roll. And DS9 was the one series that expanded the universe outside of the human centric Federation and tried to show the universe from the perspective of other races.

Especially loved the Mirror universe episodes... Mirror, mirror for TNG and Crossover for DS9.

But my favourite DS9 episode had to be "Trials and Tribble-ations". That was just brilliant. Mixing the footage from the Original series with the DS9 actors was really well edited. I especially loved the end when Sisko talks to Kirk on the bridge and Judzia taking a quick opportunity. Also the scene when they are stood in a line and Kirk is examining each in turn is so well done.

Voyager annoyed me a lot, although it still had a lot of great episodes. Some of the characters still annoyed me right up to the last episode. I couldn't stand Janeway or Chakotay... especially the episodes that were focused on him and his vision quests. They were so boring. They could have done so much more with the ideas. Other characters and episodes were still good though. My favourite characters were Tuvok (especially later on), Paris, The Doctor and Kes. 7 of 9 was OK but I also never thought they explored what was possible with her character as much as they might have.

The Next Generation evolved the most out of all the series. It's first series was very different to the last. The sets, look, style, scripts come across very dated in the first series and a lot of the episodes stuck very closely to the style of the Original Series. I much preferred it later on once it had evolved.

I especially enjoyed it once TNG, DS9 and Voyager were all running alongside each other and they started to link the series so you had to watch all of them to fully follow the story and characters crossing over between series for some episodes.

The Defiant was also my favourite ship from any of the series... although you still can't beat the Klingon ships.

As for Enterprise. The first pilot episode was really good and showed great promise for the series, but the actual first series was a bit boring and the characters very wooden. Only once Klingons were introduced and the series got darker did it all start to get interesting and worth watching.

Saying all that, if an episode from any of the series is on TV I will normally watch it and enjoy it. Still love watching the original series too.

Films were great too, and even the new ones. More action orientated but I enjoy them for what they are, rather than these fanatics who get hung up on them not being "in the true style of Star Trek".

I used to have this on record as a kid and play it all the time xD

LOL we had this on the radio back in the late '80's -never seen or heard of a video for it.

On that note:
I am a ST and SW fan, but I do not know any of the episodes etc. I though the first season of NG was total crap, but it did get better. I liked enterprise, but lost interest in it in the 4 or 5 season, never saw the end, nether on Voyager, but I was working nights then so I missed everything good.

Im a big trek fan too, I have everything on DVD except for TOS S2 & S3 (I have TOS S1 on HD-DVD/DVD and it looks amazing!!!) and DS9 - one day i'll get them too.

I always considered the later Picard, especially in the movies ("The line must be drawn here!") to be an interesting twist, but not turn, more like a development, a different side to the older (as in earlier in the series), calm Picard.

And I kinda liked it ;) Gave the character more depth.

Picard is a great character anyway, if one folllows it throughout the series and the movies (so is Data btw).

TNG is my fave of the lot, the new HD masters look stunning compared to the tripe we got on TV/DVD!

Yeah, time to watch it all again soon, when the BluRays are out.

+1 for flight of the navigator... I really need to grab that on DVD...

Who remembers Short Circuit? :D

Johnny Five is ALIVE!!! :p

FOTN is also on German Blu-ray (with full English audio). The transfer is heads and shoulders above the DVD!

So, I'd mostly overlooked this thread because I'm not really a Trekkie. I mean, I've seen II, III and IV a couple of times and I'd happily watch them again, but they're not high on my list. Never really cared much for TNG, but then I've only seen the earlier episodes and I'm told it gets a lot better. Bits of Voyager were OK, but it mostly annoyed me, and I've never really bothered with Enterprise.

Then I looked at my DVD collection, with its complete collection of Deep Space 9, which I've watched end-to-end twice now and am about ready to watch again. It seems I'm clearly in the minority with this, but I absolutely loved that series. The characters and interactions were great, the plots were a lot darker than other ST series and the story arcs were amazing to watch unfold (And my home theatre rig really does justice to the epic space battles in S4 and S7!)

So, you tell me... Does a DS9 fixation alone still classify one as a Trekkie?

LOL! Close enough. You're in!

As I said earlier, DS9 was my favorite. It's kind of funny because it and Enterprise were the only series that Gene didn't have a hand in.

Good to see the DS9 love on here.
Dare we have a poll?

Of course! I'll set it up now. :D

TNG is my favorite but I really like Voyager too, DS9 had some great seasons and a few mediocre ones too.

I liked Enterprise the first time I watched it but on my second time thru I lost interest part way thru season 2 - just feels less like star trek that the other series to me and I think it has something to do with the crappy intro killing the mood. :(

DS9 got going properly just before Worf joined in season 4, the stories and character improved massively from that point.

With a title of best Star Trek series why list B5?
If it had been best Scifi series B5 would have got my vote.
