So, my A1200 has all kinds of fun and weirdness with CompactFlash cards. I plugged one into a PCMCIA adapter and the Amiga hung. On removal, it brings up a dialog box that reads:

Code:
System Request

Disk ""
zu früh entnommen!

[Wiederholen] [Abbrechen]

What does it mean?!

System Request

Disk ""
Taken Too Soon!

[Repeat] [Abort]

... Blame Google if the translation is wrong :D

@Andy

I've seen that on EAB if I remember correctly.

I think it was something to do with the CF protection.

The "CF protection" -- What's that? Some kind of CompactFlash mafia?

I'll go search EAB for some German words and see what happens.

See post #5 for a link to the thread.

AFAIK, our friendly Amibay moderator, Merlin the Great, is quite fluent in German. :D

AndyLandy are you going to place a note in a bottle and toss it in the big ocean?

Aren't there many German speakers on here? Everyone who answered seems to be from the UK?

I speak German too by the way, so you can send me stuff to translate if you get stuck.

Bryce.

You were absolutely spot-on, Dave. That's exactly what was wrong! I downloaded the newer version of compactflash.device, dropped it in place and rebooted. Now my 2GB CF card is showing up quite happily and I'm backing up my A1200 hard disk to it as we speak!

How many beers do I owe you now?

The problem is very common with CFD. And it is caused by people who simply extracts the compressed file and copy the cfd.device to DEVS: instead of running the companion install file.

Running the installation script will not show this problem.

I found the opposite to be true. I installed the AmigaKit software and had this issue, but after downloading a new version of cfd.device from AmiNet and putting it straight into DEVS: it all worked again!
