Possibly the last update to this thread - with the exception of going for 100mhz ...
But here we have the (finished) Apollo MC68060 at 75mhz running on a 1d1 motherboard.
thanks to stan for the cpu - its a beauty
mips at 66mhz 87.5
mips at 75mhz 98.5
mips at 80mhz
mips at 90mhz
mips at 100mhz
Quake time demo
timedemo demo1
75mhz 9.8 fps
i will update the thread as i go on..
but here are a few pics and a short vid (thanks mr fitz steve)
On a final note the MC68060 would not boot at all on the 5.55 firmware rom , i upgraded to the 5.60 (75mhz) rom firmware that Per sent me - i don't know or care what the difference is , it works now and didn't an hour ago...its flies along now too
Games and demos to try and i may add a few pics and vids but pretty much this is done now. This thread has seen the highs and lows of a 68040 to 68060 conversion but i have to say i really enjoyed it and once i get some new soldering tips (desolder actually) i may have another crack at one more.
My socket is made of individual strips and some are not level ooops but they are not far off

i have a new socket but i'll save that for my next Apollo project.
Over all fun and well worth the effort. would i say anyone can do it? NO! its hard, easy to break and you need decent equipment but if you have this go for it. if not get stan or someone else to do it.
Avoid EC cpus at all costs and i have had trouble with ROM's. i haven't seen this mentioned before but I'm sure some upgrades must of had blank screens & reboots and put it down to a failed upgrade...
all the best mike.
