Arcade Machine Restoration Epic

As for the coin mech, as far as I know they can be programmed to take tokens

nah, you cant program them to take tokens. tokens are different dimensions (well here in the usa talking about quarters v tokens). all my pinball machines have token mechs that are 0.900", a quarter here is 0.984" in size.

coin mechs are amazingly simple yet intricate mechanism, and work amazingly well. anything out of spec about the coin, weight, shape, size, dimensions etc it will spit it back out.

and threw it away.

those monitors are worth a fortune. here in the usa, those monitors are not cheap. were talking probably 200+ $USD to buy second hand.

Arcade monitors ARE rare. Nobody has made an arcade CRT in years.

Admittedly it's always preferable to sell or give a CRT to someone who needs one - but rare? they might not make 'em any more but they're incredibly easy to find here in the UK and we even have CRT TVs that can display SCART RGB still cluttering up the classifieds and free ads.

I just did a search "you know where" and found several completed listings that went cheap. Unless you mean new arcade monitors - which this wasn't; it was a 20 year old knackered unit.

Anyone who thinks arcade monitors or Neo cabs are rare really need to sign up to the UKVAC arcade collector forums, there are guys constantly shifting this type of thing for not much money.

In another 10-15 years I do think they will start to become an unusual sight, though, as we have a whole generation of children that didn't grow up with a CRT.

This was a great read! Back in 2002 I did my own arcade machine project, it started out as a 3-button layout so I made a new 6 button 2 player layout from black acrylic, and like you used all new buttons/joysticks etc. I had a real SF2 Jamma PCB in it to start with, but did eventually convert it into a MAME machine (keeping the original CRT.) Sadly I had to sell it about 5 years ago as I needed the space :(

Jellyous much? Dam right im jealous!

I have always dreamt of owning a Jamma cabinet. Almost got my hands on one a few years back and it sold for a stupidly low amount as well.

The holy grail for me is a 4 player Gauntlet with upgraded monitor. Complete refurb of the exterior but left original and a couple stools to sit on :)
Oh I can dream alright lol.

BTW Well done! nice re-fit job :D
