What was the best controller you have ever used and it can be any format.

For me it has to be the Microsoft Sidewinder Controller

I bought mine on day one it came out and i still have it today and it still works perfect. Its so responsive and great for emulators that i just cant imagine to be without it. I do have a wired xbox 360 controller but i only use that if a pc game needs it otherwise its down to the M$ sidewinder.

Right now i have an old Soundblaster 128 pci card installed and windows xp just to use it on the gameport adaptor but i will soon dump the card and get a usb to gameport cable.

10/10 from me for this awesome pad.

I've got one similar to that and must admit it's awesome, but for me it's a close tie between the ps3 dual shock for the sticks and triggers for a dpad gotta be a sega saturn pad.

For me I think it might be the Dreamcast controller :)

snes controller followed by S type xbox controller (not the big clunkers)

Dreamcast pad is up there, but I always found the analogue stick used to hurt my thumb after a long gaming session, VMU ports should be on everything as they're awesome.

SMS Arcade Stick?

HA HA! Only Joe-King! Sorry it always makes me laugh with the big square on top!

Original PS1 Pad was always a winner for me:

The Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro joystick is the best controller ever IMO.
No other joystick comes close.

I still have two of these suckers and I'm gutted that Windows 7 doesn't support them, as they have 15-pin D connectors for a soundcard's MIDI port (not supported I think) and the Overdrive drivers that created the force feedback just aren't out there in Windows 7 compatible format, even if you used a sound card with a MIDI port.

:(

That with the companion throttle was a perfect stick for simulators and the like.

Too bad M$ drop compatibility with it. I had one some years back.

One of my ex-girlfriends keep it alongside with my pc... Don't ask...:blased:

Snes pad, most others are just ripoffs of the greatest and most comfortable pad ever made. Following that is the ps1 original pad, I quite like the Gamecube pad now im used to it as well and lets not forget the N64 pad which imo is very good if you forget the dpad side of things. As for the dreamcast pad I dont like its analog stick, very awkwardly positioned imo.

i recently bought a microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 with usb connector here on amibay.. the power converter is in the base of it and it uses a figure of 8 ac powercable (like in stereos) it dosent have suction pads on the base but neither does it need them. 8 buttons a throttle and you twist it for the rudder controll. I love it. when it comes to joystics its the best i ever had and ever will have probably lol

But i still vote for snes controller that thing owned lol. and i do love the MS xbox S type controllers.. the psx and ps2 controllers leaned on my fingers giving me symptoms close to athritis so i dont like them.

If those things had shoulder bumpers I'd be voting for them all the way. And with the VMU interface putting a screen on the controller... I'd love to have seen what Sega would have done with a current gen revision of this...

The most intuitive and comfortable controller for me has to be the Playstations design, specifically the PS3 revision of it. Its comfortable for hours, small, but not too small that you mis-press buttons and doesnt weigh much. Its also wireless, with the option of becoming wired.

Dreamcast comes a close second for me, its much like the 360 pad but lighter and easier to grip.

Ofcourse 360 pad comes 3rd.

:ninja:Ninja comment - I didnt like the N64 pad. While it looked awesome, it was very unintuitive to use, forcing you to choose between the analogue stick and the D-pad with the left or right hand, the buttons were placed a little awkwardly and the controller felt odd and unbalanced in your hand when the focus of control was on the analogue stick. It wasnt terrible, but compared to every other controller, I rate it the worst. :ninja:

This is mine, USB connected and using arcade stick and buttons, perfect for MAME or any emulation on the PC.

Has to be the original PS1 Pad, everything just fits in your hands perfectly, I have arthritis in my hands and just about the only joypads I can use for any length of time are the PS1, 2 and 3 pads, you don't have to stretch your fingers to reach the buttons and everything is in the right place, perfect :)
