Need for Speed(3D0)

Road rash(Megadrive)

Chase HQ 2( C64 GS)

ROLLCAGE (PS ONE)

F1 97(PS ONE) - Love listen to Murry Walker and game itself is great!

Colin Rae (PS one)

GT( PS ONE) - USED PLAY IT FOR HOURS and hours and days lol

Sega Rally (Dreamcast)

Sega Rally 2(Dreamcast)

Pole Position(Atari 65xe) - It was very good for 8Bit computer as felt like almost arcade perfect at the time!

Pole Position 2(C64) Brilliant with 2 Players when I was playing with my cousin!

F1 2012(PC) It is too easy compare F1 2013 which is hard game!

GX F-ZERO (Gamecube) Fastest Game there is!

Cant think anymore as I am sure you will be reminding me what great game that I may miss out :O

Pitstop II (C64)
Final Lap Twin (TG16/PCE) (mostly prefer the Final Fantasy-style RPG feature, as many of thier sports related games included)
and the Atari7800 version of Pole Position 2,
were not bad (at the time)

Pole Position on the Atari 2600 is passable (considering the platform)

i also liked Rad Racer (NES) Out Run (Sega, various platforms) and Whiplash (PC)

i believe the first driving/racing game i ever played on a console/computer was probably Night Driver (A2600)

not really a 'racing' game per se, but Roadblasters (Arcade/NES) was always one of my favorites as well. (well, its a bit like Pole Position with cannons....)

For me in this order, WipEout 2097 (PC), WipeoutHD/Fury (PS3/Vita), GT (PS One).

The problem I found with 2097 on the PC was it had no fixed timing set in the program code, so the faster your machine the faster it play with the sweet spot around a P1 166-233mmx and a 3dfx - though was still playable upto k62 450mhz and Voodoo 3 @1024x768. I might have to build an old PC again just for this...

Possibly sad fact, I bought a PS3 just because to play WipeoutHD... hehe

Out Run - no contest :D

Outrun 2006 is very very good, love the controls and visuals. The original Ridge Racer arcade is my favourite. Apart from the Turbo demo disc that came with RR4, I'm surprised there's never been a 100% accurate release of this on any console. I love the PSX version but the frame rate is pretty crap.

Screamer 2 - PC, many hours in the day! still play it

Sega Rally - Saturn

Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 - Amiga

Porsche Unleashed - PC, first game I used my s****y new force feedback wheel n pedals with, I found it pretty damn accurate. Loved the bump bump bump, over the cobbles

Jaguar XJ220 - Amiga, I know not great but I liked it

Also liked Burnout and NFS Underground on GC, Grid on PC, struggling to remember any more! They're just ones i remember playing and enjoyed.

+1 for Porsche Unleashed. Need for Speed hasn't been quite the same ever since.

I have fond memories of 4D Sports Driving/Stunts on the PC. Funny characters and lots of fun in building your own tracks.

PGR2 on the original Xbox was, and still is, great fun to play.

Also loved Test Drive Unlimited on the 360.

Not really played any of the recent crop.

Need for Speed Road Challenge PC
TOCA 2 PC
Destruction Derby 2 PSX
Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast PC
Gran Turismo 1 (Jap version) PSX
Rage Racer PSX
Ridge Racer Type 4 PSX
Mario Kart Wii Wii
Stunt Car Racer Amiga
Outrun Arcade
Chase HQ Arcade

i like forza best.
then toca 2 on the psx
I need a wheel so i can test Gtr 2 on the pc properly. it may end up being my fave depending on how it handles and so on with the correct set up.

how have I forgot Outrun and Amiga driving games too :picard

I have just remember that the best version of OUTRUN is Sega Saturn :D

The three racing games i played the most are:

- Need For Speed Porsche 2000 on PC
- Metropolis Street Racer on DC
- F1 Grand Prix on CBM Amiga

I've not had chance to play Assetto Corsa much yet on the PC, but it is a brilliant game.

Talking of which, check out these videos and the amazing setups they are using.

What other games.. It's hard to say what the favourite of all time would be..

Race 7 and all it's additions are brilliant on the PC too. Basically anything SimBin has produced.

All Gran Turismo's on the Playstation to date. Favourite in the series is probably still GT2.

F1 '97 on PSX was the first F1 game I played that felt brilliant. I used to play that a lot.

F1 2011 to 2013 are all brilliant.

F1GP 4 on the PC is still great and you can customise it with updated mods for newer seasons, as well as updated higher res texture packs.

Burnout games have always been run. 3 was probably the one I played the most, especially the crash mini games. Paradise is great fun too.

DiRT 3 on PC

Grid 1 and 2 on PC

Shift 2 Unleased on PC

Forza 4 on 360

Trackmania United on PC - brilliant multiplayer online gaming

Wipeout 2097 on the PSX - This game brew me away at the time and I played it to death. Love the newer versions, but this one started it all for me.

Ridge Racer - Arcade and PSX. Took a lot of practice before you could get anywhere in a race, but brilliant fun once mastered.

Rage Racer on the PSX. Still my favourite in the whole Ridge Racer series. Brilliant game, if a little muted in the colour scheme.

Mario Kart on the SNES - best multiplayer arcade racer ever made!

Metropolis Street Racing on the Dreamcast, closely followed by PGR on the Xbox.

Vroom on the Amiga - especially with 2 Amiga's linked up and playing 2 player.

Nigel Mansell F1 on the Amiga.

Pole Position BBC Micro

Super Hang On on the Atari ST

Lotus 2 on the Amiga

GTA games have also all been brilliant sandbox games for driving, but not really a racing game as such.

Driver on the PSX. The first was the best for me. Really loved that game.

Micro Machines on the SNES

Crazy Taxi 2 on the Dreamcast

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer - best version on the Dreamcast.

There are loads of other great racing games over the years on every platform. I noticed Rollcage mentioned.. that was great fun.

GT Legends (PC)
GTR 2 (PC)
Outrun (Arcade)
Destruction Derby (PS)
F-Zero GX (Gamecube)
Gran Turismo (PS)
Colin McRae Rally (PC)
GP 1 (Amiga)
Lotus 2 (Amiga)
F1 97 (PS)
F1 2011 (PC)
Grid (PC)

GT Legends and GTR 2 need to be played with wheel and pedals.

Screamer 2 - PC, many hours in the day! still play it

Screamer really was a technical marvel back in it's day. Tried replaying it recently, but the harsh punishment for bumping is making it hard to enjoy today :)

Grand Prix 4 PC + mods still does it for me.

Edit: ps3 gran turismo 6 is kinda cool also gone back to how it was , it has the claim to most tracks ever done in a game e.t.c I maybe wrong.

Wow, there was a lot of gold in this thread! :)

But if I should measure it from time spent with the racers it would have to be "Jaguar XJ220 - Amiga" as mentioned earlier here.

I could spend hours making super long and bendy tracks in it, then just to race two or three laps in them... Ahhh, that was fun :-P

Supercars II is something I often asked my friend to play with me, but we always ended up with either Stunt Car Racer or Lotus III.

On the PS3 it was mostly GT5 and Burnout Paradise, two different needs catered to... When the PSP came out my friends and I lost hours to the multiplayer mode of Ridge Racer.

Also, on PSP creating havoc in Burnout Legends on PSP is GREAT fun... :-P

On a separate note, the Lotus series is also special to me because it's impressive how well the series evolved by polishing the game with each iteration making the same game just better and better between each release. Impressive.

Other mentions:
- GT 5, GT 6
- Ferrari Formula 1: Grand Prix Racing Simulation

Arcade style racing themed games:
- Test Drive - The Duel
- Lotus series (I, II, III - Amiga versions)
- Stunt Car Racer
- Indy Heat
- All Terrain Racing (ATR)
- Supercars I&II
- Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road Racer
- Skidmarks 2
- Super Sprint
- Ridge Racer 7
- Motorstorm
- Burnout Paradise
- Burnout Legends
