I am looking to complete my C64 collection by adding a breadbin C64.
I am after the 64 unit only, no need for psu/cables.
The reason for this is I would like access to the older sid chip for playing demos.

I would also be interested in just a 6581 sid chip to add to a C64c if this is possible? I am happy with replacing through hole components and simple soldering if it is possible and advice was given on what mods to make.

UK only for the C64 as postage from outside will be a killer.
Can pay 3rd Jan

Is this what you want?

Just what I need.
Don`t *Need* a breadbin C64 if I can fit one of these (6581) in a C64c.

You need to modify the C64C if you want to put a 6581 in it. The two chips require different voltages and are not interchangeable.

The easiest way to put the 6581 in the C64C is to use a dual SID board set up for a one-of-each configuration. Cost me 10Euros to do that.

There is a c64c transition model (ASSY 250466) that does use the 6851, however the more common version of the c64c uses the 8580 and does need modification.

Thecellartroll seems to refer to the DualSID designed by Tomi can double or mix the two chips in either c64 or c64c. What makes this really unique is the capability to mix the output of a 8580 and a 6851 into mixed mono... the sound it produces is just unbelievable.

Can I ask then, having taken a look at the building instructions, how is the mixing of the 2 sids accomplished? are you taking 2 mono outs and mixing them externally?
