The two diagonal ribs were the most difficult cuts till now.

Note: these parts are all cut by hand saw! :hammer:

Here's some of today's work.

And this is what i like to call "adequate precision".

Sides are not yet attached, there's a few more bits to be added, but pics were taken solely for estimation purposes..

I can safely say that this seat is the most complex wooden construction i ever made. Stay tuned!

Nice work. :)

Just out of curiosity, how far back is the seat going to lean? iirc one reason the F-16 can pull 9g turns is due to the somewhat laid back seating position?

Thanks dj, the part i've already assembled is about 88 cm in height. If you're into trigonometry, you might be able to calculate it, given that the 'leaning angle' is 30 degrees from vertical. But since i haven't reached total height yet, i estimate it to be aprox. 1 mtr (for the seat's height that is)..

Here's a real nice drawing from viperpits:

Taken that from point A (the bottom of the guiding rail) upto the next vertical line the distance is 528,8 mm i would say around 60-65 cm is as far back as the seat would lean..

Been a little busy lately...

Please note, that the sides are not yet fastened (bolted) to the center assembly, so it all apears a bit loose.. :)

Just want to say that I really admire your tenacity for this project! It will be an awesome achievement once its built, I marvel at each new piece that pops up. I only wish I had the ollies to hone skills of that magnitude

awesome work my friend.. can't wait to see more pics
And when does your arcade room open ?

Well thanks fellas, i appreciate your comments!
@Tomse: The 'arcade room' as you call it will take a really long time to be complete, but at least i got the arcade cabinet to keep me relaxed when i'm not constructing the cockpit. :)
I wanted to start with the (first) ejection seat for the basic parts of the construction, because i realize that summer is ending, and i just hate working out in the cold when winter shows up. Although i started with the ICP and HUD unit, i did that on purpose, in order to justify continuing the whole project. I simply wanted to make sure i could cope with building my own panels and instrumentation, otherwise this would be a no-go deal!
Y'all realize that this is an ultra-low budget construction; haven't yet spent a single cent on lumber, and hope to continue that way. After all, if surfaces are treated right and painted properly, no one will be able to tell where the wood originated from (if not following the construction pics). ;)

Now this is a project and a half! :o

Will be watching closely.. keep up the good work.

low budget is good.. it only means that stuff don't get thrown out just because it's old... I made a bird feeder house out of some packing wood.

btw.. how is the HUD going to work ? and can we get a sneak peak ?

Thanks a lot! Will do.

That's the spirit. Now, about the HUD.. It is a bit early for a sneak peak, because not all the ingredients are in place yet. If you go back to post #30 you'll see a miniature monitor. Data for the HUD will be displayed on it, reflected on a mirror, projected through the magnifier to the final glass.

Not much today, but i added the seatbox front piece, and bolted the left side panel..
