Have you all seen these? Very cheap chinese Everydrive copies appearing on ebay.

At that price its probably worth a punt. Mad they can produce them with a case for so little.

Has anyone tried one? Do they work the same as a real everydrive using the same sd card files? Or are they something different?

I bet the original Everydrive developer is a bit annoyed! They probably stole the PCB schematics when the original boards were fabricated.

I have seen them for some time but never even tried myself to think about buying stolen project products.
Personally I admire krikzz and other creative people so much that I want to support them buying original products.
At the moment I have original everdrives for (Nintendo) NES, SNES, N64, GBA, (Sega) SMS, SMD.
I have just got one for Atari Lynx (RetroHQ).

Chinese? No, thank you. Not because they are Chinese but stolen.

This is my very personal opinion.

Update the Chinese clones with a new fw and you get a brick , at least that was the case a couple of years ago.

I remember Nintendo went to court over the R4 card. I just read up again, and damm it applies to all devices you are right. All the way back in 2010 this ruling was made.

Oh well, I like Everdrives. The PC-Engine version is particularly great!

Surely this applies to original Everdrives too?

It was a grey area legally for years even before this ruling.

I own original Everdrives for all my systems but was just interested in finding out more about these copies. If they are exact duplicates or changed in some way. Their own firmware etc. I have read warning that they can damage or break a snes but is this true or just scare tactics to stop people buying them. Tempted to test one.

I wouldn't bother with these clones - because they are cheap clones after all and anything can happen. People use them for years just fine, people threw them away after 15mins, YMMV.
Plus it is better to spend some more money and support the guy that made the everdrives rather than support some chinese cloners - I don't know if anyone else remembers the pre-everdrive era with the weird flashcarts that were both rare/expensive and really limited, not to mention systems that had no carts at all and now have because the guy continues to work on flashcarts.
That's just my 2 cents anyways, everyone is free to do whatever they want

There were some great flashcart solutions which worked perfectly ok long before everdrive, but not many were as simple to use.

The N64 Mr Backup and CD64 units where good. As were the GBA and GB flash carts. All worked well.

Well, imho Krikzz's cards are well designed, feature rich and reliable, and come at a decent price.

These things... I'm not so sure. I'll pass. :blased:

I'm still tempted to get one just to find out more about them and report back.

There were claims (from someone like Voultar?) that some official krikzz Everdrives could potentially cause damage to consoles but I believe the latest revisions have been redesigned to fix this issue, so there could be some truth to the warnings you mentioned.

I don't think these are flash carts. I think they are repro carts. The dropdown box asks you to pick which game. I don't think it will be like an everdrive :)

i used a knock off one for the gba, looked identical to legit everdrive at first but eventually bricked my SP :(

It can't be a very good knock-off since it is 6 bit rather than 16 bit.. Check the text in one of the pics. :)
It does say that it can be connected to a PC so you can probably reflash the game that is stored on it, although perhaps you can only have game at a time. In that case, it is miles away from the functionality you get with a genuine Everdrive.

Don't forget that with Krikzz's official cards, you get lifetime support. He's currently fixing my 8 year old SNES Everdrive 1 for free!

Yes, I think that support Krikzz (he made and he still is making great job) is best solution for All :)

we are not takling why should original be used instead of clone. To be honest, i can't imagine how can a cartridge damage a console if it was tested, unless pcb hasn't chamfered edge connector, is thicker as should be and causes mechanical defect by inserting the cart. Another problem can be a short circuit. If it was assembled correctly and it's working -
it's fine, if there are dry joints and bad soldering - it may probably fail soon..
Talking about carts linked above - i don't belive these are flash drives like everdive, in my opinion these are more like reprogrammable carts..
I'm still tempted to get one just to find out more about them and report back.
It's the best way to find it out, however, I'd open this one up before plugging in
