Chrome has a updater that is constantly looking for updates. When you first run Chrome it runs the updater in the background and checks for a update, probably pausing the current Chrome while it does this.
You can slightly speed it up by renaming the updater found here :> "Crogram Files (x86)GoogleUpdate"
GoogleUpdate.exe
Just rename it to something else, but remember to rename it back to it's original name incase you want the latest update.
