So Apple were actually miles ahead in terms of raw processing power then for a bit?
I've never been into Macs whatsoever until I began programming and I've only been able to focus on that properly for the last few months without distraction of other things to work on. Most of the time I've had this macbook has been spent getting used to the operating system more than anything else. I've reinstalled it a few times too, so I'm getting to know it fairly well now. Just the command line left to conquer!
The G5s were seriously powerful pieces of kit, but they were serious gas guzzlers. The switch to Intel came about because IBM couldn't make the chips cool enough to run in a laptop. That's why the last lot of PPC laptops were only G4s. Eventually, Apple had to do something, so they switched architecture.
